Following the announcement of his new solo debut album 'Eternal Something' due March 24th on Erased Tapes, Daniel Brandt, co-founder of Germany’s electroacoustic ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, shares the incredible second single from his upcoming album.

"I recorded Chaparral Mesa a year ago while I was involved in a recording session for another album in Malibu. We had rented a very beautiful place overlooking hills and the sea and we had a nice basic setup to record in there with a few guitars and a moog synth. I started recording a lot of guitars on top of each other and somehow the song arranged itself. I didn’t really touch it and just went along with naturally had to happen within the song. Later I added the second part, the drumheavy one. This one was based on a session I once had with my friend Bryan Philips from Chile when I was visting him in La Serena. I took the basics from that session and added a lot of new drums later on when I was at a proper studio and then added that part to the new song. In the end Chaparral Mesa was the most quickly made song on the album but has also become the longest." – Daniel Brandt

Brandt also joins The xx at their sold out show at O2 Academy Brixton on March 14th for a support DJ set. Prior to that he will be taking part in Classic Album Sunday's ‘Meet The Composer’ event on March 13th, which takes place at the Erased Tapes Sound Gallery.

What started off as a more simplistic idea soon evolved into something a lot more complex as the London and Berlin based music producer travelled across the world, experimenting with various other artists and different instruments. From his father’s cabin based in the German countryside with access to nothing but cymbals, to being surrounded by guitars in Joshua Tree, his unexpected journey soon progressed into what became his first solo album. 

Daniel played nearly all instruments himself with the only exception being fellow musicians Florian Juncker on trombone, Manu Delago on hang drum and Andreas Voss on cello. Using his Berlin studio as his main base for recording, Brandt created an album that encapsulates the idea that despite setting out with a particular creative vision, external influences and environments will always shift the process, and create an Eternal Something.

Words from Daniel, January 2017:

“The initial idea was to make a cymbal album. I wanted to surround myself with all types of cymbals. I locked myself into my father’s cabin in the woods for three days. That was the moment I realised it was not possible for me to make an album just with cymbals because other ideas and instruments imposed themselves on me. I had a clear sense of what I wanted to do now. The intention was to let the songs evolve by themselves and not edit too much, keep it raw and have an explosion-like energy to them. I wanted to create a different sound, songs that build up like dance tunes but don't feel like club music at all. Travelling around in California for two months gave me the possibility to deeply get into this concept outside my normal environment. Robert Raths, who served as a great motivator throughout the whole process (I guess he had listened to the record more than I ever had) came up with the perfect order for the songs. This record is about failing to make the original plan happen, but then the discovery of something I couldn't even think of before.”

bORDEL Records is back with a single taken from Turbotito’s last EP on the label, ‘It’s Always The Same’, back in May. This time it comes with innovative remixes from Kasper Bjorke and Gemini Brothers. As well as his solo work as Turbotito, Filip Nikolic is also a producer for the likes of Bonde Do Role, Azealia Banks, Baby Alpaca and many more. He runs his own outlet for his material and on this release worked with vocalist Baby Alpaca to serve up a track with a strong emotional impact. This glistening but downbeat pop single, ‘Different’ features a deep and sombre speech about love and what’s left of it, in regard to what we are doing to nature and our environment. It comes with its own video which finds New York City underwater with only one man left. Danish producer and hfn music artist known for his immersive disco house and pop LPs Kasper Bjorke is the first to remix. He flips the track into a superbly slow burning six minute number with tumbling drums, the original’s pained vocals and some loose percussion to help move the groove along. He also provides a top dub mix that strips the vocals and has more focus on the rueful keys and heavy drums. The final remix is from Romanian producers and twins Gemini Brothers. The Skint and Night Noise associates go for something more swirling and synth heavy, with cosmic chords and icy hi hats taking you on a mid-tempo house journey. This is a tasteful package of tender house and disco sounds that will inject any set with real feelings.
