Greg grew up in Sydney and now lives between New York and Dublin Ireland. 

Palooka is not primarily a jazz group; its music is influenced by funk/pop song structures with an improvisational element. The band features superb young improvising musicians from Australia, Britain. Award winning Irish musician Alexander Mathias has been playing, writing and producing music for over 20 years. Since graduating as a scholar from Berklee College of Music in 2006 he has gone on to perform around the globe as a freelance saxophonist playing with the likes of Amy Winehouse, The Commitments, Mary Coughlin, Shane MacGowan and many more, leading him to perform in a huge variety of styles. Mathias currently plays with the recently reunited ska/punk band Save Ferris who are set to release their first EP in 20 years in January 2017. Mathias arranged and wrote horn parts for several of the new Save Ferris songs.

As a highly skilled pianist, guitarist and vocalist, Mathias performs and programs everything on his original music and has written, produced and recorded over 1000 songs and compositions. You can listen to a selection of this music in the soundcloud players above, all of which is entirely written, performed, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Alexander. 

Mathias currently works out of his home studio in Los Angeles, CA, writing and recording music everyday. He creates a wide range of styles, providing music for Film, TV, Ads and other media. Mathias continues to study and listen to current music, constantly learning and adapting his production skills to meet the needs of his clients.
