The 'Indrani—Ariana' Mix (Feb 2020)

☼☼☼ Welcome to episode 1.2 ☼☼☼

In today’s episode, I felt like building a journey that travels across the Wadi’s (Valley’s) and the Sahari (Sahara) of the Middle East and beyond. After a recent visit to العلا Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia, a much needed reconnection to our beautiful land and its rich heritage, culture, and history. A journey of discovery which certainly has left us in awe. For that reason, the trip inspired me to bring in more Arabic & Middle Eastern flavors in this episode. 

  With a hypnotic عُود (Oud) intro, to melodies by the majestically sounding قانون‎ (Kanun) tracing its origins to Ancient Greece, to the groovy and shaking sounds of the energetic دربوكة‎ 
 (Darabukka) percussions, a drum piece used in Mesopotamian and Ancient Egyptian cultures. Arabic lyrics and موال‎  Mawwal (A traditional chant/song in Arabic genre of vocal music that is very slow in beat and sentimental in nature).   But of course, let’s not forgot the more electronic side of things, no narrative needed (:

That morning, the little witch woke up from the pleasant sound of the singing birds in her forest.  With her eyes half-open and still feeling drowsy from a good night’s sleep, her heart suddenly skipped a beat from excitement when she realized the next night there would be a full moon, which meant she’ll participate in the monthly witch coven (which always happens in a different location and in the ever-changing company of two other witches).  
After finishing her morning rituals and her daily inspection round of the forest, the girl said goodbye to the animals, and flew into the unknown.  She knew she would – as always - reach her destination by simply following her inner compass.  To her great surprise, she was unable to make any speed and she was just gently floating Northwards along with the clouds, which meant this witch coven would take place in a nearby area.  She flew over green lowlands with several big rivers and on her left side she had an excellent view of the North Sea.  After a while, she spotted a crowd of yellow daffodils, thousands dancing in the breeze, along a lake beneath the trees.
She landed gracefully next to the yellow flowers and noticed that there actually was a line of daffodils leading deeper into the forest.  She followed the winding treasure trail until she arrived in a small clearing with a dry moss carpet, where the 2 other witches were already waiting for her, one silver-haired elder witch of over 500 years of age and one black-haired teenage girl from the Middle-East who she had already met at the foot of Mount Hermon a few months earlier (in Witchtape #59).  After the customary group hug, the three women got dressed for the occasion (the dress code was purple) and started with a long series of mystic ceremonies, before shucking off their purple dresses and performing an hours-long ecstatic dance until the camp fire petered out.  It was already well past midnight and the 3 naked witches huddled closely together in the cold wind (which had turned to the North-West while reaching gale force).  On top of that, melting snow started to fall and the temperature dropped to zero degrees.  The teenage witch started to shiver from the cold (she’s used to a way warmer climate) so the two European witches decided to heat her up.  She laid down on the dry moss carpet, while the little witch warmed up her hands and the senior witch did the same with her feet, before warming up the other parts of her body.  Witches can produce prodigious amounts of heat with their hands and soon the body of the Arabic witch started to glow from top to toe.  The witches took turns and repeated the same treatment, until all 3 were emitting so much heat that the melting snow first turned to rain, and finally the rain drops just evaporated before they could hit the ground.  Together with the witches, the whole forest seemed to have become energized and at daybreak spring was clearly in the air, with all the birds - after their morning song - frenetically started building nests, getting ready for yet another epic year in the forest…

Oh, look who we found at the ocean coast, whisteling some happy melodies. A traveller of the sea with rope in his hand and an old sailor hat on his head. While getting to know this fine man and many stories about long travels over the seven seas, he introduces us to a treasure carefully collected and selected.

“But!”, he says, “You can not touch my gift, neither taste nor see it. You can only listen to it.”

And so Fruiterama showed to us an ocean of sounds with deep valleys and high waves with dizzy melodies.
