HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
DM: I discovered this track like more than 10 years ago and forgot about it. And not so long time ago I found my old hard-drive and felt in some nostalgic feelings about music that I found there.
 
HRDF: Why did you choose to edit it ?
DM: I searched of some vocals for my track and tried to work with this beautiful vocal. And to be honest I wanted to do something in style of HARD FIST because it’s very inspiring music that you release. 
 
HRDF: Any tips for digging ? 
DM: Digging is a trip, so you just need to go and enjoy your road

Morning World track is a reading of a Java old story about a mythical creature called Gatot Kaca. Searching old records in his storage room, Omar accidentally found somewhat of a scripture in ancient Javanese. The meaning of it came from his family. The script was released by Kraton, an ancient Javanese royal palace, and was passed down on Omar's mother's side of the family. The story is a simplified folklore called Wayang, a traditional form of puppet theatre play from Java island.

Exclusive: Omar Joesoef - Chants Of Gorontalo (Cosmo Vitelli What Was The Question Again Remix)

Hard Fist's next release explores the chants and rituals of one of the world's last tribes living or holding on to ancient occurrences. Therefore Indonasian artist Omar Joesoef digged deep into the archieves of abandoned radio station on Java island to come up with samples of old recordings of the tribe. Unsurprisingly Joesoef names the EP's opening track, Chants of Gorontalo, after an Indonesian province on Sulawesi island, where the Dayak tribes lives and practices the ancient and traditional way of living. Aside from three more orginal tracks, namely Morning World, It's the Heat in the Room and a digital bonus track, Joesoef's Rituals of Gorontalo EP is provided with two remixes. While Jonathan Kusumu reworks It's the Heat in the Room, French hyper-spacey artist Cosmo Vitelli takes on remix duties for Chants of Gorontalo and turns it into a futuristic out of space tune that's implementation of racecar sounds, space-filling soundscapes whirl around and stir up elements from the original. However, it's the pads and synth-sequences in the second part of the eight minute lasting journey that serves as a counterpart to the spiritual didgeridoo-like sounds that accompany the listener from start to the very end.

Born and raised in Indonesia, Omar Joesoef built this EP with samples of old records of ethnic music that he has found in an abandoned radio station on Java island. Named Lokananta, it is one of the first radios setting up in Indonesia in the 50’s. The recordings in Omar’s EP come from rituals and meditative chants of one of the last tribes still living in the ancient way, completely disconnected from the modern world.

Chants of Gorontalo opening track is named after a province of Indonesia located on the island of Sulawesi. Over there lives the Dayak tribe who still follows its ancient traditional way of life. They practice rituals to communicate with their ancestors using chants and meditation. This first track is about a prayer for harvests, fertility and prosperity. Dayak is a very intimate and enclosed tribe, keeping themselves away from modern society. These recordings of them singing found by Omar in Lokananta radio station are very rare and special. Lokananta is also the first record label of Indonesia, releasing recordings of wayang performances, speeches, Javanese orchestra. It is a great source of inspiration for Joesoef’s work.

Omar found a Latin version of the script and asked his friend Sascha Alatas to read it in the way he used to hear it at Wayang plays when he was a kid. To complete the track, Omar made some minor manipulations of the voice and added a few samples of Lokananta records such as bird sounds and environmental soundscape. 

“It’s the Heat in the Room” track conveys a strong and powerful energy with consistent heavy bassline, snappy snare, groovy percussion ensemble and vocal samples of the Dayak tribe. The song emulates the adrenalin rush one might feel in the middle of a night hunt. Some of the sounds chosen reminds of the echoes that may be experienced in a dark cave when a single stone breaks on the floor.

HRDF: How did you discover the original track?
Kubebe: First time i discovered Art of Noise was on a cool popular compilation of synthesis music my father was listening when i was a kid. I was crazy with Moments of love, their most famous and so brilliant song, later I went through their discography and found this track, Legs, very special.

HRDF: Why did you choose to edit it ?
K: Vocal parts are really trippy, the song is really going in every senses what i like but i was thinking will be cool to make it more direct and a little bit slower, find arrangements with my FM keys to join every parts

HRDF: What is your relationship with the art of edit ?
K: It's my first edit actually, usually I write my own songs but i really like doing remixes, arranging, keeping the deep essence but bringing the track somewhere else, in function of your mood at the time.

HRDF: What are your expectations for the future ? What are you working on ? What do you dream to do as an artist ? 
K: I’m working on future solo EPs, one is more about slow disco with dub effects, the other is faster with proto house accents, few collaborations with nice and creative guys on the way. im also working a live show, with electronic and acoustic instruments, my first gig is in August

GG: Gael Juárez aka Gael Gael, DJ and producer from the city of Puebla, Mexico.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
GG: I have always been passionate about music and, one day while exploring Discogs, I came across this song that seemed quite avant garde for it to be from 83.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
GG: Because I like the mix of genres combined within the track which are some musical references that I like like hip hop/electronic music. The melodies mainly seemed fascinating to me so I decided to take the most interesting parts and imagine editing it in my style to give it more dynamics for the dance floor.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
GG: Working on original music for upcoming releases and keep making edits... I love edits! Stay tuned.

HRDF: Who are you?
D: I am Dacou, a DJ/producer based out of Toronto. 

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
D: I saw a local ad in Toronto for somebody wanting to get rid of some old Arabic cassette tapes, so naturally I was curious. Turns out it was an elderly gentleman who had them, and they had belonged to a lady from Egypt who he was in love with over thirty years ago. Unfortunately things didn’t work out between them and she went back home, leaving their love unfulfilled. He never saw her again and these tapes were all that were left of her, but in his old age he felt it was right to pass them on. This tape was amongst them. 

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it?
D: After discovering this song and coming to know it was in fact a love song, a declaration of love - I thought it was a fitting ode to the gentleman who had given me the tapes, while serving as modern dance-floor friendly refresher of a great Algerian Raï track. 

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans? 
D: To keep digging for gems and dropping betters!

MRN: My name is Gal Goldman aka Mr Right Now, 21 years old producer from Tel Aviv / Paris, started my way as a selector dj in Tel Aviv a few years ago and I’m really inspired by Italo disco , French electronic music and alternative music from the 80s.

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
MRN: I discovered Rupa with a recommendation of my girlfriend maya in a vinyl store in paris, in the moment I listened to her album I decided that my fusion will work well with her tracks so I contacted her and got her permission to put it out as a official release.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it?
MRN: I choose to edit this track because Rupa took out only 4 songs out in public and I loved the amazing touch of ethnic Hindi vibe with the disco in her tracks and she did it like no other.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans?
MRN: My upcoming plans are moving back after a few months from Tel Aviv to Paris and to release an electronic original EP that mixes all of my various music taste in to one.

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
O: I was digging’ here in Venice in a very nice vinyl store (Spazio 432Hz) with a super and very large selection of 90’s and early ’00 trance, progressive and techno wax, searching’ for the 45rpm to play at 33rpm to achieve the Trance-A-Lento long lasting effect and this Italian gem comes by my hands, the artwork was epic and when I putted it on the plate I fell into a total state of trance %). Love at first sight

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it?
O: Because I got it just on vinyl :D so I chose to make an edit playing
something more on and pitching down (a lot) the whole track making it completely different from the artist's initial idea (the original mix I choose to edit is pure trance at 130 or more bpm)

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans?
O: Got 2 releases which I’m very proud of, the first one will be in January on UK’s Trule Rec (Al Wootton's own imprint) and the second one will be in March/April : a 12” on Multi Culti

P: Music lover. Dj. Producer. Brazilian. Living in France. Always looking for the sun =)

HRDF: How did you discover this track?
P: I heard it in another song also as a sample. It really got me somehow trapped into it, and it makes me want to do my own version. 

HRDF: Why did you choose to edit it?
P: The song chose me. Kidding...hehe. Well, it has been a while that I wanted to do something special to HardFist, it finally matched perfectly with the vibes I wanted to put in this edit. 

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans?
P: Well. Right now I'm touring between Colombia and Ivory Coast, so kind of living the dream of sharing music with people.  Until the end of the year, I still (fortunately) have some gigs.
I'm releasing a 8 tracks EP with two remixes of two of my fav artists at the end of January  for Cracki Records. 
In February/Mars will be doing some release parties in France. I'm really looking forward to it.

Reymour packed their bags in the pre-Alps of Switzerland and left to start a new life in Bruxelles. This debut album finds originates in this transition, again in a bilingual environment, by now a Knekelhuis theme. Leviosa documents the emergence of a kind of dance built from chansons, synthpop and cute minimal wave. Luc Bersier’s wide musical spectrum reaches great heights while staying small.
