* O Virgo is a 3 voiced Caça (caccia) contained in the Llibre Vermell. I "modulated" (i.e. changed the mode of the scale) from the original mode of D to G mode, thus turning the Dorian original into Lidian.

The Salterello, as the rest of instrumental dances contained in this mss, has irregular metric phrasing but it fits well together with the Cantiga creating polyrythmic textures and some beautiful dissonances.

Cantigas CSM 179 & 322 • Alfonso X

After making a dawn recording at a Stringybark forest in Deep Creek Conservation Park, I visited a pine forest  several kilometres farther inland that I hadn't visited for many years. Being situated at the crest of a hill, the forest was quite exposed to wind; which, however, couldn't penetrate down to the forest floor; where, of course, the microphones were placed. Although the wind pervaded the forest space, the calls of the birds remained sharp and clear. The natural mix and balance of these very different and yet very complementary sounds was deeply pleasing and relaxing. (Among others: Grey Shrikethrush, Golden Whistler, Galah, Common Bronzewing, Common Blackbird.)

Recorded around 8:30 am in the morning with a pair of MKH 8020s in AB array with 60 cm spacing into a MixPre-6-II. (Best listened to with good quality headphones with a flat frequency response.)
