Heiðrik is a Faroese singer, songwriter and producer, who has recently been working on his upcoming debut single Maria’s Donkey. He teamed up with the multi-award winning composer Rosabella Gregory (BMI Award, Cosmopolitan Woman Of Achievement, BBC Pebble Mill Winner, Pullen Memorial Prize) to create a unique strings- driven arrangement for his song. 

Having collaborated with the likes of Jools Holland and Delilah, Rosabella’s long-standing experience gorgeously compliments Heiðrik’s creative songwriting skills to bring together the sonically elegant Maria’s Donkey. 

The tone is set immediately by a very minimalistic intro with just the pizzicato strings for company. Leading into a soft and crystal-clear vocal, it creates a feeling of restraint that is softly audible to the listener. 

Maria’s Donkey resembles Gotye doing a Lars Von Trier soundtrack, and is an interesting lead into the world of one of Scandinavia’s hottest new artists. In other words, Heiðrik’s upcoming new single is a real treat for everyone, and will be available for sale and download everywhere from 14th July.

Love On Your Hands

On February 22nd, 2014, Ian Randall Thornton released his debut EP “End Where You Begin”, a six track continuous song series about the beauty and difficulty of love in the context of change, life, and death. This soulful folk record is a journey of breathtaking tension and release. Intricate, heartfelt acoustic guitar and Ian’s rich baritone blend with tasteful string arrangements and other instruments that seem to enter and exit like a brilliantly choreographed play. Poetic and descriptive lyrics draw you into a cinematic narrative that feels like a good conversation flowing from layer to layer of the weighty topic. For such a lofty conceptual album it remains approachable, human and personal while leaving the listener feeling enriched, embraced and contemplative.

You could say our music exists on the axis of big city life,  and our longing for nature, family, feeling connected as humans - home.  

Halfhearted Prayers is about being a 100% present and taking things all the way. Making our own luck. No excuses. It's easy to blame society for our shortcomings but if we all take a close look at ourselves, we have more power than we sometimes think.

As we all miss our Scandinavian homelands, living in Berlin, we have sent a phone to Oslo, Norway.

Heiðrik (Hi´drik) is the sound of a new generation of music hailing from the remote and tiny Faroe Islands. His new album Funeral is a collection of songs dealing with his past struggles in his isolated conservative home environment. The album, consisting of 10 organic and acoustic tracks driven by piano, strings, ukulele as well as Heiðrik’s softly expressive vocal, takes us on a melancholic, confrontational and mildly humorous journey inspired by jazz and folk from 1920s to the 1950s. His fragile and versatile voice has been compared to other LGBT singers, such as Anohni from Antony and the Johnsons and Marlene Dietrich.
