The waves rolled in against the beach - onlookers danced and moved beneath the glow of the moonlight as the drums bounced and echoed against the cliffs and the cove.

This was a magical place, ethereal and peaceful. The stars seemed closer than ever despite being millions of miles away against a backdrop of deep treacle black.

Soon the daylight would return and the crowds would retreat into the peaceful ambience of the trees and the tropical forests behind.

Perhaps this was to be their forever place...

Frankfurt’s Chiwax has been responsible for some heavyweight releases by Ron Trent, Gemini, DJ Deeon, Ian Pooley, Boo Williams, Felipe Gordon and Jasper James. For the much-respected labels next release it welcomes Glasgow underground bubbler Jasper James back to the fold with his highly infectious ‘House It Up EP’. Since making his debut on Optimo Trax eleven years ago, James has notched up releases on some suitably impressive labels, including Steel City Dance Discs, ESP Institute and most recently NO ART.
 
On ‘House It Up’ the Glaswegian producers return visit to Chiwax comes via an EP that showcases the depth and variety of his solid house influences. Check first 'No Metronome', a dusty, thickset, and percussion-rich chunk of muscular deep house that reminds us a little of the great Kerri Chandler, before admiring the retro-futurist Chicago jack-track that is 'House It Up'. Over on side B, 'Mission 770' is a lightly dubbed-out chunk of peak-time deep house hypnotism and 'Do You Play House' sounds like 'French Kiss'-era Lil Louis fused with the sweat-soaked energy of Sound Factory era Danny Tenaglia and the Junior Vasquez productions.

After laying the groundwork with Two Opposites’ “Electropobia EP”, OWL - the white-label offshoot of OPIA Records - returns with its second release, proving once again why the parent label is celebrated for its forward-thinking, eclectic approach. This time, it’s Artem Stan who takes the reins, delivering his “Exotic Cruise EP” and steering the series into dreamy, proggy waters.

The opener, “Exotic Cruise (Dreams Primates Version)”, feels like a sun-drenched voyage designed for late afternoons that seamlessly bleed into neon nights. Null + Void  - Where I Wait (feat. Dave Gahan) Remixes Pt.3  Alva Noto / Úlfur Eldjárn 

Building on the remix project of Null + Void’s (@nullandvoidmusic) ‘Where I Wait’, the third part of the project invites the one and only Alva Noto (@alvanoto) to provide his magic to Kurt Uenala’s standout track from last year’s album.

Carsten Nicolai needs little introduction, but it is fair to say that his Alva Noto project has collapsed the boundaries between techno, noise and soundtracks over his long and illustrious career.

Here he dives into ‘Where I Wait’ with precision tools, producing a thick, atmospheric electro rhythmic bed for Dave Gahan’s iconic vocals. The track finds a deep groove and sticks to it - the analog richness of the synth pulses a result of his unending quest for sonic brilliance.

The Alva Noto remodel dub strips away much of the vocals, but leaves fragments in place, dubbed out and sparse.

Also included on this release is the Aristókrasía Version in collaboration with Iceland’s Úlfur Eldjárn (@ulfureldjarn) - previously surfaced towards the end of last year following the Cryosleep album, but here given a new lease of life in all its rich, neoclassical grandeur. Sweeping strings replace the electro pulses, and provide a totally new perspective on the track.
