Amptext, the solo project of Gary Rouzer, seeks to investigate the boundary between music/noise, sound/silence, and instrumental technique/gesture using cello, prepared bass, clarinet, cardboard, cassette tapes, amplified objects, record player, and field recordings.

I'm a composer and instrumentalist based in New Haven, CT. I ran the Uncertainty Music Series from 2007-2017.

Mission/Vision/History

Founded in 2001, High Mayhem Emerging Arts is a not-for-profit emerging arts facility, record label and multimedia production collective based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We challenge the homogenizing effect of pop-culture groupthink by providing opportunities for and fostering collaborations with underrepresented “experimental” artists.

High Mayhem curates performances and organizes workshops year-round with musicians and performance artists who come from near and far. We seek out other brave explorers (and welcome those who have discovered us) to join us in producing innovative and thought-provoking experiences for our communities. Further, we encourage and organize collaborative experiments across disciplines; new forms emerge from mutated traditions and pure invention.

We provide a venue and voice for creative tinkerers who challenge our notions of aesthetics in music and art, especially those who employ cross-media synthesis, improvisational techniques and the unorthodox…the often indescribable.

The group’s members, volunteers and constituents have created a live/work space which allows them to explore their varied interests, commune with one another and experiment with sound, vision, movement…you know, creative adaptive systems.

Beyond merely organizing, promoting and producing cutting-edge programming, High Mayhem collaborates with like-minded individuals and organizations.

High Zero Foundation works to present improvised and experimental music in Baltimore MD.  The 12th High Zero Festival, from September 17-23rd, will feature sets with combinations of artists from Baltimore with performers from around the globe.  The Worlds in Collusion Festival held in July during the Baltimore Artscape street festival is three days of mind-bending performances by Baltimore artists, including the traditional, the experimental, and the just plain strange.  Yearlong, weekly concerts of the aforementioned are held at the Redroom.

Ian M. Fraser is a computer musician working in free improvisation and algorithmic based composition. His primary focus is generative structures, pseudo-artificial intelligence, and stochastic processes. With Reed Evan Rosenberg, he works with the continual development of Keroaän, a musical Artificial Intelligence designed to perform without any human intervention whatsoever. In live performance they combine live generative works with real-time visualizations utilizing high intensity strobe lights and lasers.

LEMUR is a fourheaded sonic organism that transforms, blends and breaks the boundaries of their instruments and the art of quartet playing. Drawing on their combined vocabulary from experimental music, noise, contemporary music and jazz, the four soloist appear as a conceptually informed composition collective and a tightly knit improvising unit.
