The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

The heart and soul of Jamie Stevens' extensive body of work is his desire to deliver an individual experience, as he takes us on an excursion into the human psyche with each masterpiece and DJ set. There are only a small number of composers and DJs within the electronic music realm that diligently share the same consistency, quality and humble nature of Jamie. This is his key attribute that will continue to be the centre-point of his growth as he confidently remains a major contributor, and role model, to the house and techno community on a global scale.

Through two decades of countless offerings to the electronica world, two ARIA awards (with band members of Australian live act Infusion, responsible for hit releases such as "Girls Can Be Cruel", "Natural" and "Better World”), collaborations (including one with John Digweed and Nick Muir) and remixes of the world's most revered artists, Jamie’s most recent EP releases are a true indication that Mr Stevens has matured into a sophisticated artist with depth and consistency. Stevens' hugely successful 2013 release on microCastle, "The Wonder of You”, is best described by the label: "This is a production that comes from the heart.” To really put the nature of this track into perspective, Guy J gives full respect to Jamie’s musical offering, describing the track as “one of the greatest musical pieces of all time”.

Djing consistently in his hometown of Melbourne at the infamous Tramp Bar and Revolver, Stevens’ sets have also earned him regular spots at revered events like Rainbow Serpent, Let Them Eat Cake and Rancho Relaxo. Stevens has also successfully brought his unique style of storytelling, full of creative energy, atmosphere and hypnotic brilliance to enthusiastic audiences in Argentina, Japan, India, New Caledonia, Germany and Holland. In March 2019, Stevens was invited to contribute a DJ mix to John Digweed’s Transitions show and at the end of 2020, was invited to do the same for Guy J’s Echos series, and also play at Lee Burridge’s All Day I Stream events (alongside Joe Miller). 

Jamie’s productions have appeared on Lost & Found, Bedrock, Manjumasi, All Day I Dream (as a collaborative effort with Joe Miller), Cid Inc’s Replug label, Beat n Path and Selador. His remixes for Robert Babicz, Hardkiss (with Joe Miller) Roger Martinez, Jam & Spoon (with Uone) plus a collaborative remix with Anthony Pappa have all garnered high acclaim and done well on Beatport’s charts with support from the likes of Joris Voorn, Sasha, Blond:ish, Tim Green, Patrice Baumel, Guy J and John Digweed.

With more originals, a string of remixes and more collaborations streaming out of his studio in 2021, we're sure that the best is yet to come and Stevens’ eclectic, heart-felt and hypnotic DJ sets will continue to win new fans across the globe! ENJOY THE MIX x

About the CD:
002 of the Classic Mix CD Series and yet another absolute stand out classic. After getting into house at around 15, I guess my only source of info was Danny Rampling's seminal LGDP (Love Groove Dance Party) Saturday nights on Radio 1. However I can't remember Carter getting much coverage on there, yet he, much like Danny Tenaglia seemed to have a level of legend unlike most. This CD cemented my love of house music with an all might smash in the face. The tempo, the bass, the disco, the filters, and fucked up vocals... this was heavyweight. Nothing could compete at the time. I'll always remember driving to college with my 2 nerdy class mates and insisting they played this CD in the car. I'm raving in the back and they are like "What the fuck is this shit, turn it down!". It's with immense pleasure that DJ's like Sneak and Carter seem to be booking all the massive clubs and parties again. I'm not so keen on the whole 'I'm a House Gangster' vibe... but this is as bad as it gets.

aka DJ Hipp-E has a history deeply rooted in the underground scene. He is considered a Pioneer that
blazed a trail for artists today. Also known to most of the top DJ’s and producers as one half of the legendary duo H-Foundation for inspiring a sound That is timeless and can be spotted in most dj sets today! The two had interstellar success with Chart-topping hits and also found themselves at the top of the global dance music scene. The H Foundation Name is a staple in the music scene. The pair held a residency for 8 years at London’s Iconic Club Fabric and saw the duo touring the world taking their sound
to the far reaches of the globe. After years of touring together and working non-stop, the team of H-Foundation decided to take some time off and separated. Hipp-E had started a family and wanted to settle
into a schedule more supportive of a stable home life with his family. Now after gaining balance at home
and taking time off, Hipp-E is laser focused and reinvigorated and ready to push boundaries in music
again. With upcoming collaborative releases with new artists that have inspired him as well as old friends,
Hipp-e has big plans for what will be a great year in the studio, and has already signed new releases for
PIV, Gabu and David G tronic and Guti’s label Personality Disorder. Plus a list of remix duties all set for
