Theory Therapy (@theory-therapy) is a Sydney-based mix series and radio show turned label. Run by Gary Hunter and Daniel Patrin, its debut release – a charity compilation called 'Out of Season' – is out August 6th. It's a 13-track collection of immersive ambient and downtempo recordings inspired by place, environment and the passing seasons, featuring Gi Gi, Slowfoam, Babyxxan and more. 100% of the proceeds from the compilation will go to headspace, a national youth mental health foundation that provides early intervention mental health services to 12 to 25-year-olds.

The mix features some tracks from the compilation as well as a spoken word poem by Edinburgh poet Ellen Renton.

Each episode is broken into four segments, which are connected in some fashion, but routinely unique in many others. This allows for the drawing of comparisons between otherwise disparate concepts, while simultaneously creating enough creative restrictions to focus the musical selections.

Take a Trip with Tarotplane

"Exploration trip; after crossing the wormhole, I head towards the epicenter of the radio waves I captured. Futuristic melodies change to earthy and organic ones. An immense satellite orbits that wonderful blue sphere. I look at it holistically, in the background that tribal sound sucks me inside. Textures, different landscapes but forming a whole. I can’t intervene anymore, they would discover me and it’s not time yet. With melancholy jazz I have to come back, crying but smiling at the same time."

Slowfoam (@slowfoam) is the sound and DJ moniker of Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist Madelyn Byrd. Their work stems from a curiosity about subconscious realms, the slippery nature of perception, post~capitalist musings, and joy in the mundane. She's currently working on an installation in collaboration with AI, curating a monthly radio show called 'our tomorrow' on Internet Public Radio, and working *slowly* on a couple of albums. Madelyn is also a founding member of the dream~tank and art collective, MOLD, which will be presenting Magdalena Jadwiga Härtelova's 'How Do You Talk Across Distance When All You Have is a Flying Goose' at Cross Attic in Prague on October 30th.

"Total hypnosis from the drone that swings like a Foucault pendulum - time goes by walking along the edge of the sea. The small sand grains break the foam bubbles that come from the waves. I can hear it. The best thing  is that I can just listen and avoid thinking.  The worries fade away with this enveloping sound therapy. They disappear like the foam bubbles."

Jack Burton (@jackburton15) is a producer, composer and sound designer based in Melbourne. Since relocating from Perth in 2018, he has studied composition at the Victorian College of Arts, specialising in electroacoustic and ambient music.
