Really excited to share my opening set for Jeremy at Phonox in London! Tried to set the tone right with some soul/funk 7's before going into more disco and boogie and handing over to him with some house-ier bits.

This one meant a lot to me, playing with my favourite DJ in my favourite club so it is great to be able to document it here, hope you enjoy as much as I did...

Frederika is a London based international DJ originally from Bulgaria whose genre bending sets have graced the soundsystems of many of London’s most coveted venues. You can see her spin records regularly at brilliant corners and she has shared line ups with artists such as Dar Disku, Lakuti, Sadar Bahar, Mafalda, and Cosmo Sofi at various venues across town. Along with playing at festivals, clubs and listening bars she also frequently appears at NTS, Balamii and Soho Radio and she has a regular monthly show on The Boat Pod where she explores her vast music collection. Expect to hear rarities and oddities of all genres from the 70’s blended with modern four to the floor heavy hitters, resulting in a playful musical journey for the mind, body and soul.

"I’ve been digging music that’s heavy on percussion recently and in this mix I’m exploring the clubbier four to the floor side of it. All the songs I’ve weaved together here are drawing from different cultures and continents, starting real slow with a hypnotic ritualistic groove that combines African and Nyabinghi drumming with a Buddhist Sanskrit mantra and ending with a sambass classic. It is not everyday we are sent a 5 hour mix from someone we have asked to join our Phonica mix series; but when Sheffield & Manchester legend Luke Una sends one… you have to jump straight into it! Having become first recognised in the late 80’s and 90’s as one half of production team “The Unabombers” with Justin Crawford, Luke over the years has shown to be a master in all genres be it Balearic, to Brazilian to E soul, House, Disco and Techno, you name it! With his Worldwide FM show over the years gaining a cult following Luke has gained an even more of a broader crowd from his curation of his E Soul Cultura compilation series via the label Mr.Bongo (Both comps topping our EOY lists in 2022 and 2023). This exact vast taste (that is displayed in these compilations) is very much pummelled into this five hour journey of a mix like a piece of clay and sculpted into a fine piece of art. Hudson's Choice - May 2024

"What is it about my music that's touching other people?" One of the forefathers of techno reflects on his legacy, the state of techno music and the city of Detroit live from IMS.

Most people in nightlife are familiar with the name Juan Atkins. One of the originators of techno, he grew up in Belleville, a middle-class suburb of Detroit, and would become one of the Belleville Three alongside Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. This first wave of Detroit techno artists was inspired by the late night emissions of radio DJ The Electrifying Mojo—a late-night presenter who famously mixed different synth music, like Krautrock and the German outfit Kraftwerk—and the writing of futurists like Alvin Toffler, who imagined a different, utopic vision of urban life and technology. 

In this keynote interview recorded live at International Music Summit in Ibiza, Atkins reflects on his roots and the musical movement that's grown from his first experiments with techno in the '80s. Returning to his adolescence, he unpacks the origins of his electro collaboration Cybotron, his solo project Model 500 (coming to Houghton this year) and his label, Metroplex, which became a blueprint for a hoard of techno imprints that would emerge in its wake. Now 61, Atkins also reflects on the broader impact music has had on his life—he has given lectures on the intersection of physics, music and spirituality—as well as the remaining stones left unturned as he enters the (very much still active) sunset in his career.
