Themed around events in the artist's life, Unfinished is a deeply personal journey, yet there’s something very relatable to the world he has conjured. Lockdown has forced us to look inward, explore realities within ourselves and the fragility of our forgotten world. The album is a series of peaks and troughs - hopeful words, ominous tones and other-worldly soundscapes, giving way to a journey in no way linear - but a true reflection of our times.

Ectomorph occupy a unique and strange place within Detroit Techno history. Founded in 1994 as an inspired reaction to DBX, Basic Channel, Rob Hood, Sähkö, and Drexciya, they released their first 12" singles in 1995 as an attempt to make Detroit music for Detroit itself, rather than exclusively for export.

The mystique of their early singles led to mythic status and a strong underground cult following, which they have continued to develop through releases on their own Interdimensional Transmissions label. Their live shows are legendary for their ability to fluidly incorporate improvisational techniques into synthesized music (and for the sheer amount of hardware that they bring to the stage). The Ectomorph show is all analog, no computers or samplers or even drum machines: all sounds come from the modulars and the mountains of Moogs.

Ectomorph (now officially comprised of BMG & Erika) reconvened in 2016 to write new music, which led to a series of live shows where the new material was tested via performance and allowed to evolve in form. To capture the energy of these performances, the new material was recorded in the studio totally live, multitracked for further engineering, but with no editing whatsoever. This music, to borrow a phrase from Derrick May, is what it is. The entire album was recorded live in one or two takes in the Interdimensional Laboratories in Detroit. This is the sound of the idea that is Ectomorph, presented in its natural and organic format, live and improvisational.

Interdimensional Transmissions (or IT) is a Detroit-based label founded by BMG (Brendan M Gillen) in 1995, with its first release the debut record by Ectomorph. The label has come to represent the left-hand path within Detroit Techno, Electro, post-disco, etc. IT often takes a wide musical lens and incorporates history as a way to find something both pure and new. IT is collaborative in nature, and functions as a dialogue between label partners BMG, Erika, & Amber. IT parties have also gained a cult status internationally, with their recurring No Way Back events becoming the focal point of a sort of post-rave cultural phenomenon and the annual after party highlight of Detroit's Memorial Day weekend.

Gentrified Underground presents an interdisciplinary project
tackling the sonic fiction & afrofuturism of Drexciya. 
Thought as an extension to the Bubble Chamber exhibition happening at Mikro & UP STATE Zürich, GU releases a 2x12 vinyl compilation and a booklet with contributions by Abdul Qadim Haqq, Charlie Mills, chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White, Gentrified Underground, Maïté Chéniere and tracks by Xor Gate (Gerald Donald), Shawescape Renegade, DJ Dijital, Plant43, The Exaltics, Kuldaboli, Iko, Tom Ware, Luz1e and Sansibar.

The goal of this compilation is to showcase the reach and influence which Drexciya had through generations of electronic music producers and also link them together with compositorial predecessors from the early 80s. The musical timeline on this compilation starts from 1982 and reaches its contemporary end in 2019.

fictions produced by Drexciya, the Detroit based electronic
duo founded by James Stinson and Gerald Donald at the
start of the 1990s, continues to enthral contemporary
cultural practitioners. By reimagining the Transatlantic
Slave Trade as a fiction of enforced mutation, the Drexciya
mythos opened, and continues to open, a speculative space
for the reimagining of the posthuman condition, and for
questions of becoming, origin and mutation in relation
to capitalism, finance and futurity." - Kodwo Eshun

The booklet contains unseen and unreleased Drexcyan drafts by Abdul Qadim Haqq, an interview between him and GU, contemporary art contributions by chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White and Maïté Chéniere and an academic essay by Charlie Mills.

Christopher Joseph (https://soundcloud.com/christopher-joseph) is back on his Flexxseal label with four enthralling tracks entitled ‘Eye in the Sky’.
Christopher Joseph is an emerging talent from from Massachusetts who now resides in Berlin. Christopher’s productions encapsulate his vast musical background which includes studying Jazz percussion and living in the vibrant musical hubs of New Orleans and Berlin. ‘Eye in the Sky’ sees Christopher return to his invigorating Flexxseal imprint following releases from himself and Philadelphia’s DJ Richard which together garnered heavy support from the likes of Ben UFO, Call Super, A Made Up Sound, I-F and many more.
‘Eye in the Sky’ kicks off proceedings with ethereal leads floating underneath electro-fuelled percussion and swirling synths together sending the emotions skyward while vigorously, resonant drums fused with rave- induced modulations and twisted melodies lay the focus in ‘Lick The Honey’.
On the flip, ‘Nothing69’ delivers growling resonations, breaks-tinged drums and otherworldly arpeggios that keep you enticed throughout until ‘Leaving Ringworld’ rounds things off with a vintage, warehouse techno track featuring an effervescent, rolling groove sequence, spiralling oscillations and industrial feels throughout.

PREMIERE : Christopher Joseph - Eye In The Sky

Pablo Splice steps up with some new business. It's hard to pin down exactly where this fits in but it definitely spans a few styles of electro with a twist of techno and some deep analogue house. It's also safe to say these tracks probably don't sound too much like anything else.

'Do the work' takes a moment to lay out the cardboard, then it kicks off - a relentless glitchy bass hook powering through an 8-minute routine with alternating levels of intensity. Use with caution.

'2 the 9s' promises to make it weird... and it also promises a world of stank face in the place. If you like your electro with a dose of minimal techno, and a nod to drum n bass or something wobbly in the bass realm, this should be quite pleasing.

'Psionic' could be considered the emotive ballad of the set. Melodic and deep, this one vibes on 808 electro breaks spaced to the extremities. A series of stabs and spacious melodic hooks cascade in layers, a little bit sci-jazz-fi...

Revising '2 the 9s' is one of electro's trippiest producers by far... he leaves a distinct mark wherever he appears and instantly left a mark on Pablo Splice since first hearing his unbelievably cool track, 'Rush Hour'... and that's exactly why he was highly coveted for a remix... it's a special honour to have a remixer casually re-craft an original that was in truth, directly inspired by their music... as anticipated, Fleck E.S.C. graciously delivers both his signature funk and weird - fresh and direct from Tokyo...

Adding a sugar coating to his own recent 'Magnetic Incursions' EP released for Woodwork, the esteemed Jay Tripwire contributes a rendition of 'Psionic' that is true to form, relentlessly groovy and dubbed-out with his signature voodoo-minimalist flair...

...But rounding off the entire bill is none other than Gez Varley, G-Man himself. For Pablo Splice, Gez had mad influence as a bleep techno pioneer in the legendary outfit LFO, through to his post-industrial minimal techno as G-Man that has set new standards since the late 90s. G-Man was enlisted to mold the chosen original mix into something that would legitimately become his own. The absolute artistry of what resulted is a pristine example of elegance and ease. Somehow he reduces 'Do the Work' to nothing but a stem cell and re-imagines the inescapable hook in its simplest possible form. A select few can craft a mix so subtle, hypnotic and addictive.
