Never Stop Dancing is a mix series focused on amplifying house, disco, and techno. The mix series aims to highlight the incredible talent in the Kootenays and the surrounding areas. The intention is to share the creativity of up and coming as well as established DJs and producers. This mix series is dedicated to the house and techno lovers who may find themselves on the first or last on the dance floor. For those who find themselves dancing so hard they have no words to speak. For those who get moved by the music. Thank you, beautiful dancers, for your love of the groove, authentic self-expression, and freedom of mind and body. Never Stop Dancing 3 features @SukKerata.

Local Kootenay luminary, host of cozy gatherings and dirty turbo ecstatic dances, electronic music aficionado and all-around beautiful human. This, and much more, is how I would describe Suk Kerata. When I met Suk on a dance floor a few years back, we immediately connected over our shared love for the slow and sultry side of house music. Over the years, we’ve spent hours dancing and growing as DJs alongside each other. Suk’s creativity and evolution as a DJ have kept his sets a fun, creative, and moving. 

This set, titled “Winter Bardo," speaks to Suk's ability to seamlessly blend ethereal and hypnotic tracks to create remarkable sonic journeys. I love the distilled sections of the mix that bring my focus to each sound. The vocals and minimalistic percussion truly foster a meditative listening experience. I hope this set gets your body moving, as it did mine. Enjoy. <3

Never Stop Dancing // 3 // Suk Kerata

Gratitude. Belonging. Collaboration. Flow state. Scintillating crowd energy. Much mud. Moist air. Fire and Water. Masculine and Feminine.

These are a few words that come to mind when I think back to my Sunday Mass set at Swing Fling, from 2-4pm on the last day of Kiwiburn 2023.

Many thanks to all the pious and devout dancers who brought their palpable energy to a very special rendition of the Sunday Mass, as well as all the nuns at Swing Fling serving pancakes, mimosas and/or spanks to those who confessed their transgressions on (or off) the paddock. Gary Boomshanker certainly got excited, letting off a burst of flames with every spank.

It turns out that sleep deprivation, a splitting headache and the sweltering heat inside Swing Fling's dome on a sunny afternoon after days of rain make a great recipe for entering flow state while DJing! I've had the best time feeding off the energy, dance moves and smiles from the crowd, playing one of my most enjoyable sets in a long time. Originally I was only supposed to play an hour but when the next DJ didn't show up I was actually stoked that I could continue tapping into flow state and weaving more songs. I ended on one song that I chose specifically as a way of showing my gratitude to Swing Fling and the larger burn community: Belong by Viken Arman. There is something truly tangible about the sense of belonging I feel with the radiant humans of Swing Fling, both at my first burn and this time, being actually part of the camp.

I got even more emotional when my friend Dani from Wānaka started drumming along to my tunes - something that I'd always dreamed of someone doing during a set. Next time we should try and get the drumming amplified and recorded, too!

In closing, I'd like to share a massive insight I had at this burn: the music I like to play (and dance to) is usually more feminine than masculine, which sustains the positive valence of a dancefloor and of the dancers, and keeps spirits uplifted. This may sound straightforward, but there's something in the simple clarity I gleaned from this that is very wholesome and satisfying.

This special set has some booty shaking sexiness with funky Circus flairs and some choice Cumbia and folk vibes mixed in with uplifting deep House beats!

That was a wild unforgettable night performing at a packed Williamsburg Hotel Library, where the set ended with lights on to a still raging crowd wanting more of that Bengali effect. @thebengalieffect

@dj-shawna Shawna's passion for music began in early childhood attending the Winnipeg Music Folk Festival in Canada, where she was exposed to traditional music from around the globe that would have a profound influence on her sound. At the age of 16, she began her nomadic life hitchhiking through Mexico, supporting herself by carving found materials and seeds into jewelry. Next at the age of 18 came Thailand, where she learned to fire dance and tattoo, then India to follow her passion for Vipassana meditation, and eventually spending her early 20’s living in Germany and immersing herself in the various cultures of Europe In 1997. 

Shawna settled down in the SF/Bay Area where the burgeoning art of fire dancing landed her as a sought-after performer. Constructing her own performance costumes led to starting her own fashion line that became a trend-setting force in the transformational festival scene worldwide. In 1999, she began performing as a DJ, brewing eclectic fusions of global/future bass, dancehall, cumbia, moombahton, house, techno, disco, minimal, and tropical. She quickly became a favorite DJ on the west coast and beyond, performing at some of the most respected festivals including The BPM Festival, Miami Music Week, Amsterdam Dance Event, Lightning in a Bottle, Global Eclipse, Art With Me, Summit Series, Air Festival, Art Basel, Symbiosis Gathering, Shambhala, Wonderfruit, The Gardens Of Babylon, Subsonic, and Meadows in the Mountains. Additionally, she paved the way as one of the first female DJs at Burning Man back in the late 90’s and has since graced the decks of many legendary art cars including Robot Heart, Mayan Warrior, and Abraxis.

Always cross-pollinating through various scenes around the globe and pioneering the cutting edge sounds of the future, Shawna has proven herself as a multi-faceted artist that has left her mark and continues to push boundaries. Keep your eyes peeled for her psychedelic alter ego Fräulein Hofmann.

My 12th year performing at Priceless was the most fun I've had yet. Thank you to all of the planners, volunteers, and attendees that make Priceless happen. Griffin Crafts - Priceless 2023

Another priceless Priceless for the books. 
What a treat it is for the 3rd year in a row to play this beautiful festival nestled between the tallest of trees.

I played this set at 2am at the Forest stage, and it's all feels and textures - not a rager but full of energy. It's dark and moody. One might even say it's like magma that flows under ground - slow and powerful...

It's a set I've been craving to play for a while - I loved seeing tracks from different times in my life flow together in one potent current.

 To honor the lovely island of Jamaica, this dj set is simply my favorite feel good reggae tunes.  You will hear dub, conscious dancehall, lovers rock, ska,  and traditional roots reggae songs. Jamaica's musical influence is also heard in some Latin, West African, Turkish, Arabic, and Isreali tunes as well.  I really tried to tell a story with the songs, so I encourage you to listen closely to the lyrics, which speak about uniting together, becoming a better version of your self, the problems and challenges with money, the joy of smoking marijuana, everyday struggles, living good, and of course, LOVE. Almost all of these tracks I own on vinyl, and I had such a blast recording these all week long, just vibing on down memory lane, in preparation for  this set. Asymmetry is a Ukrainian artist based in San Francisco. She fuses slow house, dark downtempo, indie dance, and slow techno to tell haunting, expansive stories. 
Equal parts elegant, groovy, and eclectic, Asymmetry’s sets take you on hypnotic journeys while making your body move with the flow.

Growing up she listened to UK 90’s trip hop, IDM, deep house, and a fair amount of multicultural folk music, which fostered her love of sound that is textured, emotional, and has an interesting narrative. More than anything, Asymmetry sees music as a soundtrack to life and enjoys losing herself to dancing.
