Their second EP "Vacuum" contains five obsession- worthy eerie compositions, lending a profoundly dark response to the overwhelming internet music domain. From darkwave and experimental to electronic minimalism, IC3PEAK explores the dark and underground scene with a cold and harsh atmosphere. The two remixes made by Russian friends Cream Soda and Summer of Haze bring a 90's retro techno and vapor style to Nastya's mystical voice.

"Vacuum" will be out on STELLAR KINEMATICS on october 6th, followed by their first european tour. IC3PEAK’s live performance main goal is to equalize visual and audio perception, using self-made VJ-ing in order to give spectators a full audiovisual experience.

Behind IC3PEAK are Nick and Nastya - two audiovisual artists based in Moscow. They create not music only but all the visual stuff also (photography, vj-ing, music videos, cover art & merch). Their debut EP which was out via STYLSS is a pure statement of IC3PEAK audiovisual concept in the way it interacts with a listener: the music is a natural synthesis of analog and digital sound, deep bass, icy and sharp vocal and wailing of DIY synth in the background, while the visual part is full of noise and sugary glitch mixed with realistic and smooth minimalism.

ABOUT STABAT MATER:
Stabat Mater is a 20 movement cycle of audio/visual ecstatic visions from experimental sacred audio/visual duo ARIADNE. The cycle is being released as a purely musical work on cassette tape and as an interactive audio/visual web based experience. Stabat Mater is heavily inspired by the visions of female Christian mystics Hildegard von Bingen and Teresa of Avila. The lyrics for Stabat Mater include adaptations of writings from these mystics fused together with text taken from surrealist poet Aase Berg’s With Deer and Dark Matter (both translated by Johannes Göransson and published by Black Ocean).

DIGITAL / WebGL:
The audio/visual version of the album is implemented as a web based 3D interactive experience, wherein each of the 20 visions are depicted as an integrated audio/visual experience. The visuals are generative and use real-time audio analysis, physics simulation and user input to determine the animation so that each experience is unique.

PHYSICAL CASSETTE:
In contrast to the interactive digital sanctuary, the cassette version serves as a physical relic for these visions and represents another path to experiencing the audio material. The dualistic nature of ARIADNE is fully realized by the balancing of digital creation with analog reproduction, professionally duplicated onto hi-fi Chrome+ tape stock. The format was also chosen for its encouragement of uninterrupted listening sessions, with movements transitioning seamlessly into one another and purposefully shedding the burden of listener interaction. The physical version is being released in “light” and “dark” editions with inverted cover art, case and cassette colors for each, with both featuring multi-panel artwork and full lyrical transcripts.

BIOGRAPHY:
ARIADNE is an experimental sacred music and new media art duo whose work explores the intersection of mysticism, dream analysis and the failure of digital systems through a synthesis of music performance, digital and interactive art, poetry and dramatic experience. Much of ARIADNE’s output consists of interactive audio/visual performances which employ custom built hardware and software, real-time 3D animation, and machine learning to create immersive and captivating experiences. ARIADNE’s body of work includes feature-length audio/visual albums, web-based virtual reality, and a/v installations.

PAN welcomes back Objekt for Cocoon Crush, his first LP since 2014’s Flatland. Over the past four years Objekt has continued to challenge conventions with his club output (the Objekt #4 single release and the Kern Vol. 3 mix CD for Tresor), while maintaining his reputation as a DJ who deploys impeccable technical finesse in crafting elaborate narratives from a diverse and challenging palette of electronic music. 

Written between 2014 and 2018 in Berlin and on the road, Cocoon Crush once again sees the producer jettisoning the functional requirements of the dancefloor. Marking a further evolution from the youthful exuberance of Flatland, Cocoon Crush explores a more introspective side, with themes of human interaction resonating throughout the record as it ruminates on a spectrum of complex moods rooted in 4 years of sometimes turbulent personal experience. 

Cocoon Crush represents an aesthetic departure from Flatland’s largely synthetic tonality, drawing from organic source material and natural textures to illustrate perplexing and unfamiliar sceneries in photorealistic detail. In Cocoon Crush, Objekt diverges further still from his musical influences to craft the purest manifestation of his own musical personality to date: an intriguing and enigmatic album whose reference points are hard to pin down, in which ghostly synth passages weave through mind-bending, weighty drums, and ASMR-triggering foley collages scrape and sparkle. Through meticulous sculpting, Objekt traces a rich and impressionistic journey through claustrophobia, hope, guilt, anxiety and joy, nested in layers of sonic detail which reward with every listen.

Multivocal is a polyphonic maze that unfolds to both the body and the mind. A generative take on rhythm and spacial perception, it presents the same events in different configurations. 

The two pieces of the album, "Solid of Revolution" and "Never Odd or Even", mirror each other with the same principle in different musical scales: steady pulses with one millisecond difference in tempo start beating together, then slowly phase organically and progress into ever-changing rhythmic patterns until they finally return to unison. 

Multivocal emphasizes shifts of attention in the listener’s experience and plays with the expectations that frame it. Originally conceived for quadraphonic sound, the pieces reveal the many different aspects and modes of perception that can arise within the same sequence of notes. In this way Multivocal is influenced by concepts of gestalt psychology such as multistable perception - a term describing ambiguous patterns that offer multiple interpretations at once. The minimalism and repetitive quality of the music also refers to trance-inducing and collective music practices, driven by the strong bodily affects induced through the use of rhythms.

Those two compositions were recorded live during Ars Electronica 2018 at the occasion of the sleeping event « Sonatas for Sleep/less », curated by multimedia artist Shu Lea Cheang and cultural theorist Matthew Fuller.

Hidden in plain sight, grinning through worry, living in insecurity – modern society has returned to a day-by-day race for survival. To be vulnerable is the new normal; afraid, a bare minimum. Something was bound to emerge from the quiet throngs of the new precariat, and Racine is such a voice, setting to music those modern lives defined by uncertainty.

Quelque Chose Tombe (‘Something Falls’) is a set of compositions that confronts demons both inner and outer head-on. Created during a period of necessary unemployment somewhere in Montreal – caring for one’s health can take precedence over work – the music is both a grotesque dance of the goblins and the gentle opiatic breath of the protectors. It’s a harrowing reflection of the prevalent vampiric hypochondria forcing a generation into fatigue. 

The sounds crawling out of Racine speak with their own internal logic. Snippets of fractured tunes creak through perturbed post-digital soundscapes, blurred and fragmented along the way into haunting amorphous instrumentals. The two-part title track is multi-part sonic maze where raven-like pitch bent notes gather, a broken rave theme punctures its way through bass fog, and silence clefts the music in two, ushering in a coda of heartbroken ambience. As the album’s suite progresses, Racine shepherds mutant melodic themes in and out of earshot, like clear thoughts bringing temporary order to a state of emotional panic and withdrawal. A host of other sounds too – voices and birdsong, cybernetically deformed – populate Racine’s scarred productions. 

Emerging from Quelque Chose Tombe’s constant darkness however, is a latent sense of hope. Racine is turning modern vulnerability into a strength, creating a singular aesthetic to reflect and confront an uncomfortable present.

Eighteen months on from his last solo release, Vancouver-based singer/composer Ian William Craig returns with a brilliant and powerfully emotive new album. His first for a long while to be centred around the piano - and also one of his most pared back - the record was made through an intense period of personal loss and environmental catastrophe. 
Recorded over two cataclysmic weeks in August 2018 in Kelowna, British Columbia, whilst the city was encircled by forest fires, it was captured from start to finish in the living room of a small house owned by his grandfather who was residing in a care facility across the street, having been afflicted with dementia for the past decade. Midway through Ian’s recording, his Grampa passed away, his lungs filled with fluid as a result of the smoke.

Performed using his voice, his grandfather's piano and shortwave radio set, several modified tape decks and a bunch of tape loops, Ian notes how events helped force the shape of the record and a tendency toward a less layered, more spartan expression. “Everything felt raw, I didn’t want there to be anywhere to hide in this record. My parents and I were cramped together in a small house while my grandfather slowly died across the street in a world filled with smoke, after all. So, in this record, more than most, there exist a great many things straight to tape without any effects because there really was no space.”

‘Kainos’ is the debut album by Index, a new electronic music project by British musician Simon Scott, recorded in 2016 to 2019 in Los Angeles. Scott is a veteran British composer, field recordist, drummer and mastering engineer. 
Taking inspiration from the conflicting opinions of Brexit debates from the Houses Of Parliament, Scott fed these live streams into his modular synthesiser for improvising and composing with. These symbiotic jams formed the foundations for each Index track, with only the sparse nocturnal beats from a Roland 909 and transparent editing of each modular jam to accompany the synthesis. 

Scott’s association with shoegaze, as a member of UK band Slowdive, and ambient influences, present in his solo work on Touch and 12k, is replaced by the early electronics influence of Coil and Throbbing Gristle on Insides, early metal pioneers Black Sabbath rising on tracks such as Blackesh and Exit B. The throbbing 909 pulse on Sprinkles provides a Dubbed out groove that calls to mind Arthur Russell jamming with Basic Channel and the bottom heavy bass lines of dubstep on Countdown has is visceral and contains a brooding sample of Rachel Goswell’s (from Slowdive) voice sucking everything into the mix.
A key conceptual influence to Kainos is Luigi Russolo’s Futurist manifesto for music, The Art Of Noises who glorifies the use of “noise-sounds” and other nonconventional musical sounds. This captures the imagination of a modern culture immersed in ecological disaster (climate catastrophe) and surrounded by the constant noise of capitalism and consumerism. Other inspirations for this album were taken from literary and non-musical ideas such as Donna Haraway’s 2016 book ‘Staying with the trouble; Making kin in the Chthulucene ’ and its central tenet that “our task is to make trouble, to stir up potent response to devastating events on a damaged earth”.
Index is the musical expression of Scott’s profound discontent with the lack of equilibrium we have right now and how disconnected we have all become in relation to nature and each other. Kainos means “now, a time of beginnings, a time for ongoing, for freshness” (Haraway). It is born from ecological grief and political frustration at a time when electronic and ambient music is sitting too comfortably in safe areas of sonic experience with nothing to say and providing aural wallpaper that is safe and sterile.
