Long ago I wrote some songs which were rubbish so I tried some more. They were not much better so I kept at it. No one asked me to do this. The world was not short of good songs. It had shitloads already. It was only short of good songs by me. Other people didn't seem to mind about this in the slightest, but I found it bothered me, so I was trying to do something about it. I guess I still am. This page is where some of the more recent attempts to rectify an intolerable situation appear.

I'm a singer songwriter and for the last few years I've been making my music with nothing more than an old iPhone and an iPad mini. I have tried to overcome the obvious limitations of having no actual instruments by exploring the world of music making apps. Hopefully along the way I have created some ear-catching, toe-tapping music with complex and unusual arrangements, bleakly evocative lyrics and a big indie atmosphere.  As a result, I think this collection of songs is unlike anything else you will hear on SoundCloud. Lend me your ears and find out for yourself!

About the clocktoys: me plus occasional others (but usually just me). I have written songs from a tender age and never let the hysterical laughter grind me down (well, not often). I taught myself to play keyboards with the mighty Casio VL 1 perched on top of my little sister's toy organ (the old asthmatic wheezing kind made from elastic bands, glue and the cheapest plastics known to man).
I enjoy the creative freedom of writing alone and my music is, frankly, a muddle of influences veering off in different directions. Which is a good thing in my book.
As well as my music I may also eventually get round to reading some short stories (do i hear a a low murmur of pleasure at the back?). Basically, I'll be boring the arse off you in as many different ways as I can think of.
I like: music from many different styles past and present but in my writing I often look back to classic indie music like: the smiths; aztec camera; cocteau twins; the associates; badly drawn boy; new order; teardrop explodes; japan; early omd; echo and the bunnymen
I wish: i could play the guitar like Johnny Marr; sing better

Having been indifferent to music for most of my life - I started to learn keyboards / acoustic guitar in 2010 and this progressed to writing (very much in my own vein)songs. The indifference was brought about by a loathing of classical piano (my mother being a concert pianist - which made me very jealous of the time she gave to it rather than me!)- and an inferiority complex in the tails of my older brother who was an extremely talented pianist back in the 1970's. In the last 3 years I did a(very) part time Sound Engineering / Film Study Course and since Autumn 2016 I do 2 hours a week (term times) at the Pop Academy, Cork School of Music.
My influences are Beatles; Kinks having listened to them as a child (curtesy of my older brothers; Davis Bowie and Elton John in my teens and in more recent (retrospectively)times REM, Coldplay, Rolling Stones; and various other mainly60 and 70s artists that I did not have the means to listen to at the time. I did not listen to music from 1979 to 2005.
As a hobby - song writing has been very rewarding to me - if nobody else!
