At Organik Festival 2023 Day 3

.VRIL personal Note:
Playing at Organik Festival in Taiwan is one of the most special experiences that an artist could have in my opinion. I had the honor to be part of two of the earlier Festival editions in 2014 and 2019 and it somehow changed my life. Almost everyone I met back then I am still in contact with. A positive experience.
So.. coming back and being able to play again at the this years 2023 edition made me very happy :) Met so many old and new friends. Also Josh and Gregory from Organik made everything feel trusted. It’s exactly what we somehow should looking for and what we need in our scene in general. A peaceful place. Either as a festival visitor or as an artist to play or visit Organik, it feels just right! It is the place to be :)
Thank you Organik for having me again the third time this year. 
In 2023 I played an audio collage at the main stage on sunday morning. The set was build with a lot of own material, spontaneously and eclectically mixed together in a kind of audio collage, that also was topped with a Nord Lead Synth played live by myself. 
After receiveing the original recording from Organik 2023 I did some small edits to it afterwards and then mastered it.
Happy to release this one together with Organik/Smoke Machine!

VRIL - Ambient Collage LIVE at Organik Festival 2023

Milan based duo Simone Baratta and Nicolò Chenet are the force behind mysterious DJ outfit Orion. Alongside their principal cognomen, active since 2018, they’ve also banded together with Giegling’s Ateq as Pale Product for further excursions into their sonic universe. As a pair they’ve been largely flying under the radar, but perhaps not for long, their all too danceable sound is a deep, persistent fusion of influences destined for the club (take their residency at Milanese haunt Vitamina for instance). You could add their eponymous label to that too, where a growing number of ‘slow-release’ records attest to their predilection for quality over quantity. Bassiani Podcast 185 is their live set recorded at Horoom mid-September: think intimate and smoke-filled afterhours gatherings and pure camaraderie among a close-knit group of ravers. A high spirited trip across the dancefloor from saturated and dubby ambient to Detroit inclinations, courtesy of this budding techno pairing.

Next up in the Bassiani series comes British talent Andy Luff. With London’s growing commercialisation and NIMBY-style aversion to creative pursuits, it’s a mark of great mettle to have carved out a flourishing space on its turf, but Andy and his crew has exactly succeeded in doing this. Their bootleg and off-the-cuff raves began as a guestlist only set up, bringing together friends and their friends for events where the DJs and quality soundsystems took centre stage. And it all seems to have struck the right chord: growing slowly but steadily, with Andy now living in Amsterdam, he has taken picnics signature sound to the Dutch capital where the events are flourishing, now in its second decade and with a long-standing collaboration with London superclub Fabric and Amsterdams uniquely intimate Bret, their format is something much needed in keeping the European hotspots raving into the coming years. Picnic is still much focused on throwing some of the best parties in town, and now putting out records under their homonymous label. The imprint and Andy’s benchmark, an ice-cool mix of progressive house, electro and trance, perky beats with a confident bent, unpretentious sounds for a fun night’s dancing. Sometimes it’s really that simple. On the 7th of March, Andy brought a taste of his sound to Tbilisi with a banger set at Horoom and this one’s a live recording from the night. Andy fuses retro synthwork and wobbly percussions to fun effect. Misty-eyed melodies and infectious bass lines from this eclectic supplier of good times out are ever present in this recording. A scintillating first appearance and hopefully the first of many.

DJ Sodeyama’s murky alias The People in Fog is up next for a very special number. The DJ/producer has been active since the 90s, reshaping his home city, extensively touring the globe, releasing music, founding record labels (Arpa) and toying with different incarnations of his palette under a few different names. The People In Fog is one such project, founded a decade ago as license to lean into his more disco and house inclinations, a means of connecting with a lighter penchant for Chicago-style and Balearic rhythms. It’s a manifestation that’s given the world several first-rate releases like debut album A Ray of Light (2013), Album: 1977 (2021) and this year’s Too Much Knobs and Cables. His whistle-stop promo tour of Japan for that latest release has been whipping up plenty of shifting grooves and phase distortions, and delivering that fresh take on sound to IRL crowds in his native land. For the rest of us, the nine-tracker’s a perfect source for summer anthems: a fuzzy, analog patchwork of synths and low-end bass. Bassiani Podcast 273 takes all of this and turns up the heat, The People In Fog’s deep reverence for underground sounds is here for a two-hour mash up of grimy percussions and sensuous urban sounds. A-game grooves from a Tokyo legend.
