A lush current of kinetic energy pulsates underneath you, enveloping you until you forget your body has edges. Such is the sensation one gets when listening to our next guest, Sunju Hargun. Based out of Bangkok, he spends his time DJing and co-running the imprint Siamese Twins Records, which is focused on exposing upcoming talent from Asia and acts as a platform for exploring everything from ceremonial chants to Bollywood-inspired acid. 

As a selector and curator, Sunju's inexplicable ability to meld cultures, rhythms, and timbres has earned him a respected reputation at home and abroad. In fact, it was at their gig together in Leipzig at Institut für Zukunft that Unrush founder Mareena and him realized they were both fans of each other. In this spirit of musically-bonded friendships, it was only natural to have him contribute to the series. Let yourself dissipate into the mist with this ambient masterclass from Sunju Hargun.

We are kicking things off in 2024 in our podcast series with a special mix that we enjoyed listening to on a beautiful sunny October day, deep in the forests of the Catskills mountains. 
A drone echoes pulse like a heart in the earth, a warm ambiance wraps you as a cashmere hug, and sunlight-kissed melodies dance across the sky. Âsan, our dear friend from Cellar Door Records, guides you through this sonic sunset, each track a brushstroke painting onto the vast canvas of an ideal Saturday.
But as the sun dips, so does the vibe. Deeper tones emerge, shadows stretch, and the rhythm takes on a hypnotic sway. Âsan's mind-bending selections weave whispers into the night, whispering secrets only the forest knows. Feel your worries melt away like mist under the moon, replaced by a hypnotic joy.

For our fourteenth installement we've invited Noah Lyas, an artist passionate about making refined ceramics and composing deep atmospheric rhythms.

Malii grew up in a house where music was always on because of two passionate parents who shared a large record collection with their children. With a father as a musician, early contact with different instruments was made as well as performing arts.

Later in life, around the age of twenty, after many dances in night clubs with friends, Malii started to make his own music focussing on soft percussive rhythms and lush atmospheres, finding inspiration in different kinds of music and sometimes movies.

The first two releases, “Before the Horizon” and “Obsidian”, were the starting point of Noah Lyas, his pseudonym, and the beginning of his record label called “Profundo Collective”.

"In the tapestry of music, deep rhythms are the threads that weave together our primal connection to sound. They are the heartbeat of cultures, the pulse of life that reverberates through our bodies and souls. Picture the steady, resonant thump of a drum, echoing through the night air. We are honoured to share a deeply personal and beautiful ambient mix by Blind Observatory for Unrush. True to his signature style, this mix unfolds like an acoustic panorama - layered with cinematic textures, immersive sounds, and delicate facets of emotion. Each track flows effortlessly, as if hiking through a natural biotope of sound, moving between different atmospheres with a calm ease. This mix is dedicated to his beloved dog, Plüshka, who recently passed away:

"I compiled and recorded this set during the last weeks I had with my wonderful dog Plüshka. My true soulmate. It is a story of two tethered souls slowly untangling. About a connection getting grainy, then fuzzy and blurry before fading. A journal of our parting. It's a little tribute to my big love."

This heartfelt journey is an ode to love, loss, and the unbreakable bond between kindred spirits. We hope you enjoy the set and have a relaxed start to the week...

~ About The Story ~

Orakei Korako “Place of Adorning” on the banks of the Waikato River, the ukaipo (birthplace) and principal papakainga of Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa. Tahu Matua travelled the lands in the rohe; it is here he placed himself. The area was abundant in kai sources, geothermal resources and in an ideal location situated on the banks of the Waikato River.

Orakei Korako has been an important settlement site of Ngati Tahu for many generations. The settlement of Orakei Korako consisted of a fortified pa on the left bank above the river and a living area on the flats beside the river amidst the geysers and hot pools.

Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa has a historical, cultural and contemporary association with geothermal resources within our traditional rohe. Such resources were used for cooking, drinking, bathing and healing. Large kainga and cultivations were often established around these taonga such as at Orakei Korako, Ohaaki and Waiotapu.

The geothermal landscape has changed over time, but the geysers, hot springs, bubbling mud pools and silica terraces remain within the geothermal park. Our taonga have cultural significance to our iwi, and under our care we ensure to remain kaitiaki of our whenua, natural resources and taonga. As kaitiaki ensuring to protect and restore this area is important to Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa.

Campfire Stories is a mix series by friends of Silent Season. The focus of the series is on storytelling through deeper electronic music. Artists weave together narratives using the emotional characteristics of ambient and techno music.

The snowfalls of recent days has melted under the new moon and we are finally ready to turn another page in The Memoir.

This time we're greeted by the blissful beats of @tokifuko who's sounds and work with his outboard gear has been inspiring us lately. His music can be described as "mechanical signals structured into a hypnotic substance".

"I always liked tactile music writing and I've always wanted to control the electric wave by using drum machines locking them into a chain. It was hard for me to get results with the use of virtual instruments which led to the purchase of my first synthesizer. As a result, it has become an experiment in search for new forms and a race for the best sound in order to achieve better results."

Recently this talented producer released a wonderful EP on @silent-season which is well worth checking out.
