Andy Martin (@andy-martin) is one of my favourite musical discoveries from the last few years. A while back, after hearing an iconic tune he made called "Revolution" featuring Lee Scratch Perry, I was excited about his music, and also learning more about him as an artist. Andy is based in Guadalajara, Mexico, with Jamaican and Mexican roots.

Whilst I was touring Mexico, we shared a few gigs together, and all the locals referred to him as "the best in the country", which I can completely understand. Since discovering Andy's music I've been hooked on his productions, an incredible fuse of old school and new school dub techno, underpinned by influences from his heritage which flourish in the form of exciting percussion & unique, emotional melodies. 

On top of this, Andy is very humble, and  a very talented DJ, and I'm super happy to host him in the series.

Animix One Hundred & Sixty Two: Andy Martin

In anticipation of the next release on Eaux, a mini-album collaboration with Polygonia entitled "Dermatology," I have decided to release a rare recording of one of my live sets, taken from this year's Mostra Festival, located in the historic Montjuïc Castle overlooking Barcelona. Performing in the evening in this majestic location with the open-minded Mostra audience, I felt especially free to let this set unfold even more slowly and patiently than normal. Some of the material is taken from the upcoming release with Polygonia, so it also functions as a sort of hidden sneak preview. I hope you enjoy the journey :)

Parisian artist KEUT is the founder and artistic director of KLUSTER, a collective and label that has become a fixture in the city's underground scene. His approach to music is as fluid as his influences, which range from hip-hop and bossa nova to blues and pop, all filtered through a lens of hypnotic, minimalist techno. During the pandemic, he channeled his creative energy into building KLUSTER, a project rooted in community and connection. Now, with residencies and plans for a dedicated space, KEUT has cultivated a movement that mirrors his music's thoughtful, layered approach.

This "Delayed with…" mix feels like it's made for the dancefloor of a lakeside beach at sunrise. KEUT begins with airy, dub-laden sounds that match the cool, early-morning air and the shimmering reflection of light on the water. As the mix evolves, it builds momentum, mirroring the sun climbing higher. When Tozzi's Kamayuk drops, the weather shifts—a brief summer storm that electrifies the mood. The energy deepens, taking on a melancholic hue, yet it never loses the light entirely. KEUT's ability to guide this transition makes for a set that is as dynamic as it is reflective and perfectly suited for that moment when the night melts into the day.

There’s a rhythm to how the festival unfolds. Thursday opens slowly, almost like a breath in. By Friday night, the pulse is stronger, but not too heavy. Monument festival had settled into its rhythm, and Kia and Polygonia stepped into the wooden dj-booth together.

The forest floor was vibrating, the crowd fully present. Their set matched the moment—playful, warm, and alive. It felt like Friday was always meant to sound like this. Varden became their playground.

This was more than a strong back-to-back. Two years earlier, they met here, both playing solo, both part of the Monument line-up for the first time. This night marked an anniversary of their friendship. From solo artists to close friends, now creating something special together.

SAKUMA skillfully grasps the changing flow of space and time with excellent insight, unfolding a highly distinctive story throughout the set. 
His meticulous mixing utilizes the gradient of sounds, incorporating dynamic approaches at times to align the focus of the dance floor, making him one of the best in the domestic scene. His unwavering skill is acquired through experiences gained from playing in various environments. 
He began his career in his hometown of Niigata, and since 2015, has been based in Tokyo. He has been actively performing at various important venues in Tokyo such as WOMB, VENT, and Contact Tokyto etc. and some of the
top festivals in Japan like rural, Re:birth, and Liquid Drop Groove. Since 2017, he has regularly hosted the party "Modest," which is currently based at WOMB. Through this event, he has demonstrated his presence by playing with DJs like DJ NOBU , Eric Cloutier and Valentino Mora. In 2023, he was highly recognized for the skills he had cultivated for over a decade and consecutively performed at the pinnacle of the domestic party, "FUTURE TERROR." Setting himself apart with a unique sense, he has earned strong trust as a representative DJ of Tokyo.

ILAY, a 19 year-old sound artist behind the alias @ilayruni, works at the crossroads of electronic music and percussive instruments. Merging these two worlds, he explores the possibilities of rhythm and sound  Growing up in a family that had a strong bond with the electronic music scene, ILAY had early access to a wide range of styles and sounds, giving him the chance to wander and discover all types of frequencies and feelings. He seeks highly percussive rhythmic patterns that merge with Synthesizers and give place for deep soundscapes.
