Sundays can be the icing on the cake of a long weekend, and other times the trough before the massive wave called Monday that rolls over you. In either scenario there is a wealth of music awaiting your minds and ears to make your Sundays better. As with Delayed and our love of curation, we’d like to extend our programming and expertise into another realm, dedicated to that of downtempo, electronica, ambient and everything in between. The caveat? Only quality not quantity, and don’t hold us to genre.

Welcome to Episode 171 on Poisonoise Music with this set coming in from Australian based artist Ian Morrison aka Morian.
Ian's work was unknown to me prior to him sending me over his mix, but a further look into his page and profile has uncovered some 
really nice deep and hypnotic music (his link is below so make sure you check this out)

"My musical foundations are rooted in AC/DC, Sabbath and Metallica and give rise to a love of 4/4 rhythm and the riff. From here they veered into where worlds collide – Pink Floyd met the Orb in a student dive and a love of electronica was born, encompassing pioneers such as Orbital, Leftfield et al through to UK D&B, taking in Kruder & Dorfmeister and the dub scene along the way.
The love affair however ended in the early nineties, I wasn’t feeling anything from electronica any more, but I knew the music I could hear in my mind must be out there - somewhere. My musical imaginations seemed to put all of the above aspects in place and was only discovered pre pandemic in the form of deep techno. This discovery so rekindled my love and excitement that I took the plunge into DJing - I wanted to take the music internally heard and create mixes to ease back to and soothe the soul. Voila. I hope you all get the same level of enjoyment from this mix, as I had creating it." - Morian.

Igor and Joe have been Facebook Messenger friends since the early '10s, when Igor was blending Ostgut Ton with outsider indie records and Joe was developing his collage-inspired studio mixing style. They've been obsessively swapping Soundcloud links ever since, and collaborated on a 39-track project called 'Tales From Nowhere O'clock' in 2013. Today we welcome their latest, to sound track this Sunday.

For the twenty-third Far Blue concept, we have none other than Joe Miller sharing his perception with us. This one has been long in the making, as Joe has been one of the first artists we were in touch with when we started this project. We have stayed in touch all this time, and always stayed curious for what Joe would eventually put together as his Far Blue concept. After he did a beautiful playlist curation for us back in February, he has now found the time to put his perception of Far Blue into a mix.

"This is a studio mix I put together in Ableton Live at my desk facing west over a busy street just outside Melbourne. You can see the weather changing over the city from here, and I like working into the evening and watching the sun go down, after which a giant Art Deco sign lights up the sky. It's a mix for people in the Northern Hemisphere as winter begins."

Taking a more acoustic and shorter approach with this mix, this is definitely something different than what we've had before. Nevertheless, we feel that this mix once again really hits the spot, and showcases another inspiring side of Far Blue.

The Anjunadeep Edition 539 with Joe Miller

It’s hard to believe that Balance Music has been around for 25 years. When we first started, there was no grand plan—just a love for electronic music and a desire to share it. We never imagined that what began as a small project in Australia would grow into something that reaches people all over the world. 

Later this year, we’ll mark this milestone with a huge venture as we travel to Croatia to host Balance Croatia Festival, the first-ever music festival dedicated to progressive and melodic house. This is going to be a moment 25 years in the making, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Last year, to commemorate the 25 years, close friend of the label and an artist we deeply admire, Joe Miller, curated a countdown of his favourite Balance Series mix and track entries—an effort that showcased his deep connection to the label’s history.

Now, as he prepares to release his new solo EP, Planet is Far Away, through Anjunadeep later this month, Joe has once again taken the time to celebrate 25 years of Balance Music with a mix that is hard to put into words. This incredible retrospective reimagines key moments from past Balance Series compilations, weaving them together in a way that feels both fresh and deeply familiar.

25 Years of Balance Series Anniversary Retrospective mixed by Joe Miller

This mix has been brewing in my head for a while now.. An inkling of it first started to pop up back in October while we were at our biannual Delayed gathering in the mountains of upstate New York. I played a set with a dear friend on the Sunday morning there - cozy & hopeful music from various corners of our collections that don't get played very often but are set aside for special moments. My favorite kind of music.. It was one of the most memorable sets I've played & brought up a ton of emotions & memories from past experiences hearing some of those songs. Memories from my wedding, memories of my brother, memories from times living in Los Angeles when Sundays were all about lounging around all day in the sunshine after nights of dancing into the early hours of the morning. We laughed, cried, danced, ate lunch, all over the course of the morning into the early afternoon. It laid the foundation for how I wanted to approach this mix for Zach.

Sundays for me have always been a day of healing - mentally, physically, emotionally. It's a day to seek inner peace & a day to be reminded of everything you have to be grateful for in spite of anything else. I recorded this mix on a rainy Saturday earlier this month, channeling all of those memories & feelings, with my dog by my feet while my wife & daughter wandered about the house, making beaded bracelets & doing various arts & crafts.

From me to you, a warm hug & the promise of spring.

My Sunday morning involves strong black coffee on an empty stomach, followed by one massive pancake to share. Both energizing and grounding. Ideally I try to set a different tone than other mornings; less of a grind, more human.
I tried to let this mix convey this feeling, and hopefully use it myself to be in the morning and not work so hard; The music is more emotionally layered and pulls me a bit more into different directions than what I'd listen to when starting work.

Sundays are for…

All of us. As each year passes, I appreciate more and more the mental haven that has developed. A space to relax, a platform to create. Focusing on moods and sounds that we listen to recover and unwind. Deeply personal, and a sonic window into the soul, the variety of guest mixes, and emotions covers the spectrum. I am so humbled to be able to release each and every entry.

This September marks 6 years of Sundays. The musical journey continues, and evolves, so too does the visual. Simple, and abstract. Bridging the digital and analog realms, the art continues to change and match energy. A sine wave in all its glory, nothing less, nothing more. A comfort in its identity, a comfort in its simplicity.

Enjoy the mix, this is my yearly ‘moment’ if you will, to let the hair down, and indulge.

Lebendigkeit 

Ich laufe lachend durch den kalten weißen Schnee. Meine Schuhe und Socken sind durchnässt und meine Finger trotz der Handschuhe kalt und etwas taub. Vor mir bahnen sich im Sekundentakt Schlitten ihren Weg, über den Hang des Hügels, stets begleitet von freudigen Schreien und Jauchzern. Überall sind Menschen. Viele Familien sind mit ihren Kindern angereist,  um den ersten Schnee voll und ganz auszukosten. Ab und zu verirrt sich ein Wanderer an den Rand des Spektakels und betrachtet wohlwollend die Szenerie. Das bunte Treiben strahlt eine wunderschön motivierende Lebendigkeit aus. Egal ob man zum Picknick, für einen Plausch oder zum rodeln gekommen ist. Mittlerweile habe ich, außer Atem und leicht verschwitzt die Hügelkuppe erreicht. Meine Freunde erwarten mich bereits. Ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste setzten wir uns zu viert auf unser hölzernes Gefährt und brettern den Hang herunter. Nur um Haaresbreite entgehen wir einem Crash, mit einem anderen Schlitten und kommen letztendlich heil und quietschvergnügt unten an. 
Es sind genau jene Tage die das Leben lebenswert machen. In mitten der Natur, Aktion, Spaß und eine gute Zeit verbringen. In diesen Stunden existieren keine Sorgen oder Probleme. Es gibt einfach nur den Moment mit seinen Mitmenschen. 

Der KataHaifisch Podcast 188 lädt verführerisch zum träumen ein. Revision nimmt uns mit auf eine Reise der Retrospektion. Die Melodien und Harmonien kommen so leicht über Lippen, automatisch muss man im Takt der Musik mitwippen.
