Draw The Line Radio Show

Coming off the heels of a very eventful holiday season and (seemingly never-ending) January winter, we wanted to present you with a mix of music that will warm your spirits and speakers.  The Vested ORIGINS NYE 2014 event went over in a big way with all those in attendance, with superb DJ sets from all participating DJs, representing some of the best local talent that Chicago has to offer.  We also had the pleasure of being rocked by headliner - Anthony Attalla - for an extended 3 hour set that took us all the way to 4am in proper fashion.

This set that we present to you here is a collaborative effort from RJ Pickens and Hummingbird.  Unfortunately, this is not a live recording, as a room opening delay shortened the set length of our opening set before Anthony Attalla, and a faulty recording made the majority of the audio captured unusable.  However, as those of you in attendance can attest:  this set is heavily representative of what we played that night, and we added a little bit extra in a few departments, as this is a little closer to what we intended to play for everyone that night.

NYE is a celebratory event with spirits and happiness running high, and we wanted to have this set be a reflection of that, as we featured many of our favorite tracks of the year, and some additional surprises fused-in in making what we strongly believe to be a feel-good mix for all the right reasons.  Yes, it's about a month past due, but we really do think that this one was worth waiting for. Helping me Draw The Line this week it’s FSJ who are from Phnom Penh in Cambodia. The set is called "On Beauty." It’s a live set created specifically for the Draw the Line. Deeply moved by the show’s support for female musicians, their live set draws inspiration from Kahlil Gibran's poetry collection "The Prophet," using the chapter ‘On Beauty’ as a vocal sample to convey the message that everyone is whole and perfect. The project features a total of 10 original tracks, collaboratively produced by Fin, San, and Joe (collectively known as FSJ).and it’s dedicated to all women.

She’s a relative newcomer to the scene but in a very short space of time she’s made quite an impact, signing her tracks to Mainground Music, Set About, Nova Collective, Pure Black and many more. Her entry in the recent Drumcode Mha Iri remix contest was runner up and her tracks have been played by artists like Kevin de Vries, Juliet Fox, Teenage Mutants and many others. Her DJ sets are a combination of old school sounds and modern elements creating dynamic driving techno sets. The mix you’re about to hear includes five of her own tracks, two of which are unreleased.

Unable to play guitar, Dewalenn sought another way of expression through music. Now Dewalenn is resident DJ of the ARTNORMES collective that promotes subversive nights in Bordeaux committed to trans-feminist empowerment through art and music. As a DJ and Producer, Dewalenn's mixes are euphoric and offbeat musical trips with high voltage, decadent decibels for incandescent incantations to the glory of techno music.

Her passion for electronic music was ignited during her time at Bristol University, frequenting iconic clubs such as Lakota, Motion and Dojo. Kicking off her DJ career in Ibiza, highlights since have included; Ministry of Sound, UK festivals, East London sets and performing alongside legends such as Hernan Cattaneo, Darren Emerson and Danny Howells. Having set up her own touring event ‘Minority Influence’, championing ethnic minority and female DJ’s, Light Gal is a fierce supporter of emerging talent in the house and techno scene.

Yes playing at Sisyphos is always magical, but this time was just on top of everything else! During the Set we both couldn't believe what was going on.. There was this intense connection between us and all the lovely dancers and we had this unique flow of creativity while we were playing. Thomas, thank you my Friend and Role Model for this 3 1/2 hours of pure joy and inspiration. 7 Years ago I danced the first time to a set played by you in Munich, now I have had the chance to close our best Set together with your timeless classic Pleasure Seeker <3

The rāga saga acts as a cultural collectiva of our favourite artists from all across, Each raga is an array of melodic structures with musical motifs, considered in the Indian tradition to have the ability to "color the mind" and affect the emotions of the audience and this journey (raga) comes from the shamanic lands of Costa Rica from one of my favourite artists @jose-solano 

He recorded this set for me, a while back but I wanted it to be a special release, so as something new has taken form...

Jose Solano is a musician, composer and producer born in San Jose Costa Rica in 1980, at the age of 16 he starts his first steps in music exploring with his first keyboards, he studies piano at Yamaha Music School with Professor Jesús Castro, he studies singing with the famous Soprano Amelia Barquero (Franco de Vita, Ricardo Montaner) I work as a keyboardist with the renowned soloist Esteban Calderón. He has shared the stage with important national and foreign artists such as the Spanish Rusian Red, the Colombian Fonseca, and the Mexicans Jessy and Joy.

The set was recorded on my show on Monday, the 11th at Four Seasons Costa Rica, the selection of my new songs on Lump Records and Bercana Music, and other songs from producers that I admire.
(Elfenberg, Rapossa, Stefka Sobotinova, Valeron, Christian Löffer, Rasi Z)sending a message of love and peace.

This is the page for Jacki-E and her own original tracks and mixes. Together with her partner P-Mac, she has two weekly radio shows, A Darker Wave, which streams every Saturday on NLive Radio, Circl8 Radio & Echo Radio, playing the best in underground techno, tech house and deep house; & Draw The Line Radio Show every Friday on Echo Radio and every Saturday on Circl8 Radio featuring the best music by female & gender minority DJs and Producers.
Jacki-E & P-Mac are influenced by techno, deep house, jungle, dnb and the ethos of the acid house raves and festivals of the early 90's.  If you listen carefully you can hear the underlying stories which have influenced them in their preference for the darker edge of electronic dance music.
Jacki-E & P-Mac write and publish their own original tracks and re-mixes, play DJ sets in clubs, at private parties and for radio shows and podcasts .
