1. How did your musical journey begin?

I started making beats when I was fourteen. Some kids at my high school were doing it and they inspired me to pick it up. I quickly got very into it and eventually we started throwing little raves in my hometown of Fresno, CA so that we could blast the music we were obsessing over.

2. For those who are just being introduced to the world of flirty800, how would you describe your current sound as heard in this debut mix? 

Sexy and playful. 

3. How has the underground rave scene impacted you as an artist? Is there any party in particular that had a major impact?

I always get inspired by music I hear out. I'm equally informed by a more underground sound and by a “Gay” one I think. It's fun to toe that line. 

4. Favorite piece of DJ advice you have ever received?

Don't overthink it…

5. A few of your edits have become quite popular as of late? How does it feel to see your music start resonating with more fans?

Fab!! Though my biggest hit on soundcloud is almost 10 years old and I still hear it played out sometimes which I love. 

6. Can we expect an official project release sometime soon?

Yessss. I love to do remixes and edits but I'm really excited to put out some original music soon.

7. If you weren't pursuing music, what would you be pursuing right now?

I think interior designer or personal trainer.

8. Tell us something people typically get wrong about you?

Hmm.. maybe that I'm a dumb meathead? I mean, they're not totally wrong.

9. Most played track of all time?

Probably something by @vapordog.

10. Dream collaboration?

Britney Spears always has such cool beats and I'm sure the session would be fun. I loved my most recent collab with @fatalbert69 and we're definitely gonna do more. Also a duo project with DJ USA where we play all the biggest circuit parties worldwide. 

11. What's next for you?

An aggressive bulk. More music and more DJ'ing. I'd love to play outside the US again. Excited to come play in LA :) xo

Hiii, Octo Octa here! I'm sharing a new mix series I'm doing under the name "Groovy Girl" and the first entry is "Bang The Drum" <3 

It is a house and acid percussive groover of a mix that will hopefully have you raving where ever you are. Mixed on two Technics 1210 M5Gs and a Pioneer A9 Mixer, plus some overdubs on the recording. 

This release is a Mix CD tracked so you can jump back over and over to your favorite part. The CD insert has photos of all of the records I used for the mix in order.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it. Can't wait to get started on the next in the series!!

Party-starting stompers from a crossover star.

Even if you've never met Adam Longman Parker, AKA Afriqua, you can get to know him pretty well through his music. His lyrics ("Would you house me in a house, would you house right in my mouth?" from "Dr. House"), track titles ("Wagwan Bhagwan?") and cover art exude a charmingly cheeky demeanour that makes his music personable. It helps that his latest records are absolute smashers–funk bombs with jacked beats and bouncy grooves.

Once ensconced in the minimal world, the Virginia-born artist gravitated towards Miami bass, Midwest house and zesty techno before the pandemic. Thankfully so: his recent discography combines Moodymann's slinky swagger with The Neptunes' killer sense of rhythm. Just like those legendary acts, Parker carries weight in both the underground and mainstream—he's released with Tomorrowland label CORE Records and DJ'd at Ibiza superclubs, while still appealing to more headsy crowds.

His career expansion hasn't cost him his principles, either. A champion of Black history and culture, the classically-trained pianist infuses overlooked Black musical traditions like psyfunk into his work. Coloured, his debut full-length, was a tribute to what he called the "Black musical tree."

"Genre is just temporary housing," the now Berlin-based producer noted in a recent Instagram post. That mentality informs his RA Podcast. From '90s-inspired house and luxurious harp melodies to some of his originals and even a "Satisfaction" remix, it's a celebration of unpretentious, feel-good music. Put simply, it slaps—hard.

While traversing a realm of appearances many truths are heard and not seen. An audio representation of a moment in time captured and preserved - a sonic photograph. This recording is one such artifact, one that for me illustrates a fine line bordering cosmos and chaos. Something that can not be duplicated during a controlled studio session which is absent of collective effervescence. So far from a quiet game of solitaire, but more a test of faith where reckless abandon embraces instantaneous risk. The evening was a spiritual conversation that embraced us all through the magical forces of music set beneath a canopy of trees, sprouting from the grounds of an enchanted forest. Evidence of the artist’s hand and thought process is unforgivingly present while creating a range of possibilities for spontaneous storytelling surrounded by an atmosphere of ecstatic energy. This memory will live with me forever.

CHURCH LOVES ISSY: ALL THE LOVERS

Probs my fourth time ever playing techno, and it felt juicy to be given the trust to close the main room at Zero Chill, NYC's hottest function. After nearly 20 years of DJing—mostly known for house, sometimes ambient—it was a thrill to stretch into a harder, faster prime-time slot for a massive, raging warehouse. And since it was Pride, we had to oblige with a disco-flavored last hour to honor our ancestors.

I’ve never had so many people DM me after a set, and it’s got me inspired to keep exploring this direction in the techno landscape.

Special thanks to my dears Dirty Daddy Don and Physical Therapy for lacing me with some tracks for the night. It takes a village.
