Gideön (Adonis / Block9 / NYC Downlow / R3 Soundsystem)

Gideön is co-counter and creative director and musical curator of Block9 at Glastonbury Festival. It is the worlds largest greenfield festival and home to Block9’s underground queer nightlife institutions NYC Downlow, Genosys and IICON.

Gideön has a background in music spanning 30 years. In parallel to his role as creative director at Block9 he is also touring DJ, vinyl collector & musical curator. He has a BA Honours in music and produces music under his DJ name Gideön.

Gideön has been involved with political activism over the years and is now increasingly involved in organising events partnering music and protest, often under the banner of R3 Soundsystem. Together with Love Music Hate Racism, Gideon organises major sound system interventions on many of the Stop Brexit and Stop Trump and Anti-Fascism protests. He is also actively involved with several LGBT+ and human rights organisations.

Since his first set of decks at 14 he has devoted his life to collecting vinyl from the US, Jamaica, Latin America and the UK. He specialises in Northern Soul, Reggae & vintage Gospel rarities and his first and greatest love: House Music.

Gideon has been involved in radio for many years now. After cutting his teeth on London’s pirate stations, he now hosts a weekly radio show on Soho Radio. He is frequent contributor to London’s Rinse FM and has recently contributed to both BBC Radio One and NTS.

As well as Gideön’s main resident at NYC Downlow, he is also resident and co-booker for the London’s hottest underground queer party Adonis as well as a resident DJ for The Blessed Madonna’s international “We Still Believe” event series.

A regular in Berlin, Gideön is co-founder and musical curator of Absolution - an off-location party catering for Berlin's musically discerning gay underground. He has DJ’d at Berghain’s Panorama Bar, Lab.Oratory & Garten at regular intervals in recent years.

In just over 2 years, Wahine (wah-hee-neh) has risen from total obscurity into a rising star in the disco scene. Winning the Defected Croatia mix contest in 2019 and making her international debut at the boutique festival put her on the radar of many following a 10 year hiatus from DJing. 

Wahine co-hosts Spin City on the World’s #1 House Radio Station, MyHouseRadio.fm, in addition to contributing guest mixes to many important shows in the genre, including Disco Deviance, NDC Radio, and Disco Daze, . She also writes a guest column for the #3 house music blog, LeVisiteur.com, and kicked off an interview show for Only Good Vibes in 2021 focused on US-based talent. 

Wahine’s sound can be described as “Disco in Paradise”—sundrenched and full of tropical influences, matching her Hawaiian moniker. Funky licks are spiced with percussive jams with both equal parts brains and brawn. 

This year she began her foray into music production and her early mashups are already receiving support from the likes of David Elders (MFSB) and radio shows from The Black Light Disco (UK) to OpenTempo (IR) and The Shady Lady Show (NL).

In 2021, she launched her first international tour with dates in Glasgow, Liverpool, Warrington, Gütersloh & Dublin.
