Post Holiday Blues - With Tom Adams / guitar

We had a blast pulling this together.  Its a simple blues/gospel riff on organ in F, that sets up some wonderful opportunities for heavy jams over the top by Justin and Tom, two of the finest blues players I have ever recorded with.  Tom has the solos with a more treble sound, and Justin boosts his midrange and bass.  Check out their SoundCloud pages if you are not familiar.  They are bad ass, just like this tune. Bringing a soulful sound to SoundCloud with this one.  Lifetime recording artist, soul vocalist, saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh sits in with blues guitarist extraordinaire Justin Valente and me on an emotional Ray Charles type slow jam.  What a wonderful surprise to hear Johnny's beautiful harp lines, which fit perfectly with Justin's raw electric blues energy. A song for the coming season – melancholy and uplifting all at once. The sights, sounds, and smells bring out so many special feelings and heighten the senses – nature in its last dance before the winter, beauty in decay and the tinge of sadness that comes with it. I had this idea for a melody while playing the mandolin that spends most of its time hanging on the wall. The piece naturally evolved, undulating between reflection and celebration, and is the kind of piece that, for me, would only come to life at this time of the year.

My first track of the year in 2020; I had no idea how prophetic it would be.  We all lost loved ones or know someone whose loved ones perished in the pandemic (still ongoing) and the heart's cry was to have "one more day" to say what needed to be said, to give them a hug or a kiss, share a laugh or a tear; to give them a fond and fitting farewell.  Annie @annie-smart-1 added a lovely vocal and piano part to this song that lifts it to another level.
