Harry Jacobson joins Daniele Petrocchi and me on our original tribute to John Coltrane, Trane Wreck.  Coltrane and his quartet's sound with McCoy Tyler was so important in the 60s and together we explore some uptempo modal grooves and modes that drove Trane's seminal work with McCoy.  Harry's a teacher's teacher and brings the very finest sound to the Cloud.  Daniele's a monster electric bass player and musician and  lays down some beautiful bass lines and soloing too. He has an enormous catalogue of originals and jams with some of SoundCloud's finest. And he's always out to find new talent. As a result you could see Jamie as an independent and totally generous talent scout. Without ever wanting anything in return but you to play with him on his songs. I have always enjoyed his jams, featuring on quite a few myself, Jamie also kind of discovered me here on SoundCloud and really pushed my music to have it catch on. This year even leading to a record label approaching me to release my latest acoustic guitar album. Right at the start was Jamie... So thanks buddy! Keep on doing what you do. It really makes a difference!

Jamie’s Stomp | A tribute to Jamie Rhind

This is the third song posted from the album Bitzone, Stricknice, Wou-Wou & the Wormling, and I have been working on together with a number of other friends on SoundCloud. The first song shared was the late 80s indie American underground inspired song, Ghosting Out, that include Bonetender joining with his transistor organ and guitar. The second song released was late 90s inspired Alternative Rock and Hip Hop song The Show / The Shrike Pt. 3 with Carlos Vivanco and Belial Pelegrim joining in the mix. 

All of the songs were written during the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic when the United States went into lockdown and Black Lives Matter protests where having a major impact. I think you can especially hear the influence of those times in this song. 

I am honored that My Hot Air Balloon accepted my invitation to join this track and that Eddie Shook was willing to add a radio spot into the mix. It is always a pleasure to work with the extremely talented Jonathan Beckenstein and Jamie Rhind. And huge thanks to Bitzone and Stricknice for adding so much creativity and music to this entire project! And as always, Wou-Wou rocks! I have made so much music with Wou-Wou over the years, it is incredible!

I first heard Anthony and was floored by his compositions, by his superb rhythm, his sense of melody and harmony, and for the energy that he brings to each of his tunes.   This is a player who has deep understanding of music and recording, and an appreciation of progressive drums, keyboards and fusion.   You may remember Anthony's outstanding solo on my recent Miles Davis tribute For Miles, and he here has added so much harmony, sound and superb soloing to our collaboration of Flying High. How great to be recording here with Austin, Texas' Jeff Michaels.  Jeff is a serious guitar master, having 6 albums to his credit, and consistently pushing the boundaries of blues.  Heavy electric blues, funky stuff, blues rock, killer Texas shuffles and more, Jeff brings energy and soul to everything he touches.  So I asked him to join me on Dig It, an original modal fusion tune, and he's come back with fantastic playing once again. In poker, you double down when you get two aces.  And that's just what we have here...two aces.  Scott Nelson and Mirko Borach.  Both superb musicians and guys who you put money on. We had to team him up with another master on bass, Essen Germany's Mirko Borach, who is well known here on SC as Stringburner https://soundcloud.com/stringburner. Scott Nelson and I both love Latin music and Latin jazz, so here's Latin Lover.  Scott's https://soundcloud.com/scott-nelson-364333064 a world class guitar player and also plays serious bass here, helping set that deep Latin groove.  Scott describes this as a blending of an Afro Cuban groove, the piano a Cuban "Montuno" and the percussion more of a Bossa Nova.  I just love the sound of Latin jazz flute players so I've tried to mimic them with my synth here.  Scott's wonderful Latin guitar playing is on fire, and he just grooves with those deep bass rhythms and lines.  We know you will dig this.

Purple Phase - with Bill Clark / guitar and Mirko "Stringburner" Borach / bass

Ba Ba De Bop is what SoundCloud is all about.  A pure collaboration among serious musicians.  Joining me for the first time with a real clear trumpet voice is Andrew "Styrmonix" Styrmo, doing his Miles thing here.   Andrew's also adding some hip vocals, in fact creating the name of the tune, Ba Ba De Bop.  You will hear that in the tune in fun places.  His trumpet -- beautiful tone, cool chromatic playing, and drawing tension with every other note.  Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski holds down one of two serious guitar lines, driving the tune with an infectious wah rhythm track, and also some downright nasty nasty soloing, finding that perfect space between the bass, trumpet and his wah.  And once again, we've got Scott Nelson taking a big guitar solo in the middle section, providing a huge sound and such masterful playing.   This one combines so much of what I love in fusion and also in SoundCloud.  The opportunity to express oneself with other similar minded musicians from around the world.  Pretty cool ! Can't Stop The Beat

It is with great sadness that Justin Valente and I are releasing a version of the classic Statesboro Blues just a couple of days following the passing of Gregg Allman, the leader, soulful vocalist and Hammond Organ player of the Allman Bros. Band.  Gregg was legendary, and such an important musical force with the merging of Blues, Rock, Soul, Country and Jazz, keeping the Allman Brothers band together and touring for over 40 years.  Statesboro Blues is one of their most famous recordings, released in 1971 on their seminal At Filmore East live album.  The Allman Bros. have been such an important influence on Justin's great playing, and so he's the perfect guitarist to join me to bring you this classic blues. It is always something very special to me when the great Alan Schulman and I get together.  Al is one of the most talented and soulful jazz guitarists I've every played with, and he brings so much to this new original Long Time Coming. It's Sunday and no time better for a little grooving...this one's a little soulful blues and the photo's from the greatest blues club of all, Chicago's Kingston Mines.  When you visit Chicago be sure to go at least one night.  Live blues on two rotating stages from 8p - 4a every night of the year.   And if you can play they often let you sit in.  People all over bringing instruments for late night action.  Named our newest dog Koko Taylor, who's photo in in the poster on the wall - the Queen of Chicago Blues.

We've got the great Daniele Turani and Mirko Borach joining me here on our original funk fusion tune, Ciao Bella.  If you are familiar with the seminal Billy Cobham album Spectrum, with Tommy Bolin, you will enjoy this one.  But for starters, congrats to Daniele, who about a week ago had a beautiful baby boy!  So between diapers, he was able to jump in with us here.  Daniele's a fabulous recording guitarist, with multiple albums out and a wonderful SoundCloud too, including many collaborations with top musicians.  Mirko - aka "Stringburner" - is a heavy, constantly in demand slap funk bass player, who helps set and lock this deep groove. Some heavy fusion for some heavy times...
Audric is the consummate musician, a musician's musician, and the top guitar expert in Philadelphia.  So I was again thrilled when he joins me here on our original, It's Not What It Seems.  With a handoff of the framework, Audric went to work - completely inspired - and turned it into this.   Not only the guitar, but additional keys, percussion, structure and ideas.   There's a lot to listen to here - from the spectacular initial guitar work to the harmonic structure and lines.

Jazz/Fusion keyboard player, composer and producer.  Marketing, advertising, publishing and sales career.  Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.  Key musical influences include Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Zawinul and Weather Report, Chick Corea and Return to Forever, John McLaughlin and the Mahivishnu Orchestra, Stanley Clarke, Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Emily Remler, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Larry Young, Buddy Guy, Santana and Earth Wind & Fire.
