The Eclectic Collective – composition

 This song began with JJ, as many of our songs do, who composed the outline on the keys, drums, and bass. He then let everyone else in on it immediately. Ken was first up to bat by laying his always cunning drums in there. After he had a beat to work with, Josh used his tree trunk of a five-string fretless bass to complete the rhythm section. Soon after, Tez and Stephen both laid their magical guitars in there. Once we had it all in the can, Stephen used his powers of production to give us a great mix.
  This one came together relatively quickly, which is a good sign that we're all enthusiastic about what we're creating. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

method: first, I created a shaman-monk-version (mostly ‚Gregorian‘ voice and jaw harp) on cassette tape (this is where some of the noise - especially in the first section - derives from) and zoom r20 with a vacuum-tube pre-amp for the voice ….. all of which I then treated like a field recording sample in Samplitude - sculpting it with vst instruments and effects. 
narration: it feels like I have sonified this poem a million times before …. which might be the case because I have lived through it that often - I and others I dearly care for …. but then again … I might have actually done so. it is also part of the cycle SONIC CASCADE published in  A SINGLE LOOP OF FORTUNES. Alternative titles are ‚TWO-PLACE‘ and ‚04s SAMPLE‘. For this publication, I simplify the title to  ‚SAMPLE‘.

On The Path Of Adventures

We have lost Michel.  Despite a heroic and valiant effort to overcome colon cancer, our special friend and extraordinary musician Michel Martineau has passed.  I am writing this with tears in my eyes and his music playing behind me.  

Life is fleeting and this moment is a reminder that we must all live with the joy and melody and harmony that Michel found and fostered, despite his documented and discussed fight.  Let's look to his music today and also in the future - even more now that we ever have.  He has left a deep and profound set of recordings with his "Celebrating Life with Friends" collection, as well as so many other wonderful pieces.   We will remember Michel as one of SoundCloud's most important voices, a rare clarinetist here, a fantastic improviser and creative spirit, who brought excellence to everything he and others touched, and who nurtured that musical spirt with his daughter Charlotte, a very gifted violinist.
