Harry Jacobson joins Daniele Petrocchi and me on our original tribute to John Coltrane, Trane Wreck.  Coltrane and his quartet's sound with McCoy Tyler was so important in the 60s and together we explore some uptempo modal grooves and modes that drove Trane's seminal work with McCoy.  Harry's a teacher's teacher and brings the very finest sound to the Cloud.  Daniele's a monster electric bass player and musician and  lays down some beautiful bass lines and soloing too.  Sit back and smile:)

Trane Wreck - Harry Jacobson / Daniele Petrocchi / Jamie Rhind

Here's another original, Get Funky With Me, with grooving jazz guitarist Scott Nelson bringing it home.  We've set the tune up as a soul jazz groove with rhodes and piano, trading off with Hammond B3 organ and Scott's super tasty electric guitar.  Scott is new to SoundCloud, hails from Pennsylvania, and is simply a superb guitarist and musician.  On this track he brings a definitive John Scofield influence, reminding me of Sco's electric work on A Go Go, with organ and keyboard player John Medeski's group. Groove Theory - with Ghisi  / guitar (Giuliano Ghisi)

1971 was an important time in music, where electricity was changing the landscape and Rock, Funk, Soul and Jazz were all merging into psychedelic grooves.  Marshal stacks were often taller than the players, the players were higher than the Marshal stacks, Strats and Les Pauls were the axes of choice, Hammond B3 Organs and Fender Rhodes keyboards could compete for volume with the guitars, and the hair was even longer than the jams.   Woodstock was a recent memory, Jimi Hendrix had just passed but had moved into the funk and soul inspired Band of Gypsies period, Sly & The Family Stone was heating it up with heavy funk and soul inspired grooves, and Miles Davis had just released the seminal Bitches Brew fusion double album that literally changed music.  This was where it was at, with each of these musicians and bands being influenced by each other.  Great stuff that produced legendary sessions and recordings and pushed music forward with power, energy, groove and volume.  

1971 commemorates this time and mindset, and recreates the feel with friends from around the world who continuously exhibit this spirit, energy and hair in their playing:

A couple of words on each of the players:  ALPHA ROOTS - Alphio was the perfect choice to add his soulful African djembe percussion voice.  One of the most prolific and inclusive musicians here on SoundCloud, always speaking with a positive voice.  Check out his often reggae and dub inspired recordings.  RICKARD FROM - my favorite B3 player here on SoundCloud.  We haven't recorded before but wanted his beautiful sound and also wanted these other heavy cats to be introduced to his Jimmy Smith type playing.  STEPHEN "PINNER" LIPINSKI - one of the hottest jazz fusion guitarists on SoundCloud, bringing more modern Scofieldesque jazz lines and harmonies to 1971.  SCOTT NELSON - another burning jazz and fusion guitarist, Scott sound combines elements of the contemporary guitar masters - Scofield, Metheny and Martino - to create his extraordinary playing.  MARCO OVERSTEEGEN - no one on SC has a closer overall sound to Hendrix, and we needed Marco's fabulous rhythm playing and soloing to anchor this 1971 mood.  JUSTIN VALENTE - Justin's my favorite blues rock guitarist, and just had to be a part of this summit, bringing us that heavy electric sound of Jimi, The Allman Bros, Freddie King and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

In Oslo, we are treated to some hauntingly beautiful and also spectacular playing from the Norwegian fusion master.  The piece evolves, with Ronson building the theme, and then taking it out into the fjords and northern lights. We've got Justin Valente throwing down the Golden State Blues.  Justin and I share a love for blues and basketball, and when the Golden State Warriors had the finest season in NBA history it was almost a lock for their second championship in a row.  But Lebron's Cavs beat them in the finals and our blues tune was started.  Just this last week, however, Kevin Durant joined Golden State, turning around their Blues into smiles.  Now the entire NBA is running scared.

How great to be recording here with Austin, Texas' Jeff Michaels.  Jeff is a serious guitar master, having 6 albums to his credit, and consistently pushing the boundaries of blues.  Heavy electric blues, funky stuff, blues rock, killer Texas shuffles and more, Jeff brings energy and soul to everything he touches.  So I asked him to join me on Dig It, an original modal fusion tune, and he's come back with fantastic playing once again.   Sweet harmonies with his rhythm playing and all those super tasty solo guitar spots interwoven through the jam. New Jersey's burning fusion guitar player Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski is at it again, this time hitting the Jackpot.  Our original funky fusion tune has a real positive vibe, like when one is playing slots and the bells and whistles and lights start going off....Jackpot! Goin' Back To School Blues - with Tom Adams / guitar

Here's our take on the seminal Maiden Voyage, written and first recorded by Herbie Hancock in the early '60s, and recorded and performed again by so many jazz musicians since.  One of the all time classics in the repertoire.  Joining us on this tune are two of my very favorite jazz guitarists on SoundCloud, Stephan Lipinski and Scott Nelson, and the very fine bass player from the Netherlands, Kenneth Bruce.  Pinner takes the first solo, Scott the second and the tasty rhythm playing, and Kenneth anchors the grooving bass.  What a treat to be able to showcase Herbie's work so beautifully.

Great great lines from him and also Pennsylvania's deep jazz and fusion artist Scott Nelson, who brings his exceptional guitar playing and sound to this track.  I've had the wonderful opportunity to record here before with both players and they are musicians at the highest level.  So glad they could join to bring this to life.
