The Fun Part - November

The Fountain Statue at Tsarskoye Selo is a poem by Alexander Pushkin set to music by the Russian composer Cesar Cui. Based on a fable by Jean de La Fontaine, it tells the story of a young peasant woman who wanted to get rich from selling milk, but breaks her jug, leaving her empty-handed. The bronze fountain at the centre of this song can be found in the gardens of the Catherine Palace in Saint Petersburg and the water has been flowing from 1816 to this day.

Pushkin dedicated this poem to the countess Anna Alekseevna Andro-Olenina, daughter of the President of the Academy of Arts. Being his muze, Pushkin passionately addresses to her in other poems like 'Her eyes’, ‘I loved you’ and ‘Sing, lovely one, I beg, no more’. We even know that Pushkin proposed to Anna, but eventually they never got married.

Cesar Cui — Thou and you / Цезарь Кюи — Ты и вы

'I loved you' is a poem by Alexander Pushkin set to music by Alexander Dargomyzhsky, a 19th-century Russian composer, who bridged the gap in Russian opera composition between Mikhail Glinka and the later generation of The Five and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This poem is the best-known poem by Pushkin in Russia. Most probably Pushkin dedicated this poem to the countess Anna Alekseevna Andro-Olenina, daughter of the President of the Academy of Arts.
