'The Flow'

This is still my most played song on SoundCloud and one of my most precious recordings.

I actually wrote the lyrics to 'The Flow' whilst walking around Waitrose in Canterbury, Kent. The guitar part came later that day. 
I didn't think it suited my voice and really wanted my daughter Sophia (pictured above) to sing it but she was studying for her GCSE exams at the time. I pestered her until eventually she said she would have one go at it in her break. This was the first and only time she sang it.

The Flow was included in Tom Robinson's Fresh On The Net and has had a fair bit of airplay since then, it is still available on SoundCloud and Spotify etc, there is also an instrumental version of the song available.

Sophia's is now an F2 Doctor, so no harm was done in making this recording 🙂

Countless Ways

Today the grim reaper almost took me in the form of a 65 mph Ford F-250. Afterward I got a beer, then roamed downtown to clear my head. I met a man down and out sitting on a bench named Jason and I decided to buy us a nice italian dinner. We had a picnic under a street lamp. He lost his job three years ago and has been down and out since then. He is originally from Chicago and a dedicated Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls fan since childhood. 

We spent the evening on a picnic bench discussing the measure of men and the hypocrisy of many of the faithful in this fundamentally christian town. He goes to church every sunday and watches as the words of his gospel are forgotten as soon as people leave church. The sermon could be about helping those in need and he will see those from church the next day pass him by, not even affording him the dignity of a hello. He doesn't ask for donations, not even a cup for change, he survives on faith and water he says.

We spoke at length about the book of Job, how everything was taken away from him yet he still remained faithful and hopeful that the lord would redeem him. Jason says we can never be sure of when tragedy and adversity will take it all away from us, this is why people need to look out for one another. We came to the conclusion that this modern life has so many distractions and has empowered such rampant self absorption that most people forget about the precariousness of their life. On the streets of your town, in the fringes are where the wisest men reside. Go out and seek them, be kind, for today may be your last day to offer such help.
