Searching the past for  forgotten shame, digging up graves for someone to blame

Beating the drum and sharpening swords, kindling a flame to burn all the words
Offering service  to bury the truth, with old arguments long in the tooth


Ive heard it all since I was young, in every scene and song that was sung
Replace the old ones with sages in kind, poor sightless men leading the blind

Tell me again what the book says, that you don’t believe but you’ve never read
Bolstering folly to hinder the truth, the old argument long in the tooth.

In the play "El cóndor pasa", Frank is a character born in an indigenous family, but with blonde hair like the foreigners that exploit him and his peers, a detail that deeply troubles him. In some way, he represents the people of my country, all of us descendants of colonizers and colonized. A shared history of suffering, that's what connect us, and yet, we keep finding ways to discriminate, segregate, despise, humiliate, ignore, kill, and hate on each other.

This song came up when I played a sequence of chords on the piano and noticed that these chords created no tension. This reminded me later of Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1 (though there's no clear connection between the two). 

Then I sent this sequence of chords (+ drums) to Mercy and she presented this nice melody to which I added other instruments and effects in order to create this light and airy atmosphere. Enjoy!

When Jonnie showed me the first chords of “True” I didn’t even take the time to reply to him that I had felt “love at first listen” with it, because I just had the urge to record the melody for the verses that had instantaneously appeared in my mind. I had to capture that idea before it escaped me for good. I love it when that happens. Instant inspiration. That’s the effect a great song has on me.  
I feel truly blessed that Jonnie still wants to write songs with me because I admire his creative mind so much and I love being able to take part in the process until the song is finished. “True” is our latest collaboration and one of my favorite songs so far. A brand new original Surf-track from your favorite surfband, the infamous „The golden tornadoes“. When I wrote and arranged this song I associated at first „slam dance“ or „pogo“ with the music. Back in the 80s I was a faithful customer of the legendary underground disco „Batschkapp“ in Frankfurt. At these times they played mostly Darkwave, Hardcore and Metal and little brave Dirk jumped every weekend into the moshpit, which was overcrowded with dangerous looking Punks, Skins and Metalheads.
But looking for the right video-footage I was not happy with that title anymore and stumbled at last over a very charming old animation-movie produced for General Motors/Chevrolet back in 1938. Though it seems that the movie is not related to Chevrolet you can see a Chevrolet at the end of the movie to save the heroes from the bad pirate.

When watching this old gem from the past I wondered about the quality of the cartoon-animation and decided to change the title of the song to „Peg leg pedro“. 

Instruments used:

Lead guitar: Guild X-175 with Bigsby

Rhythm guitar: Ibanez FRM-100

Bass: Bassculture Picco

Drums: VSL Jazz drums

I sticked with some recording techniques, which I tested on „Bonanza“, so the rhythm guitar is running again through a Biamp-setup
Musically you can expect a crazy mixture of Surf, Jazz-infused Rockabilly a la Brian Setzer and even a part, which is close to dodecaphony, probably influenced by Trash and Death-Metal.
