The 42nd release of katharsis is the collaborative album “Soft Space” by label founder jjjacob and various other artists from around the world, coming out on May 31st. The album works as a sequel to his previous full-length release "Brutal Nature" from 2022, both in terms of the collaborational dogma in production but also in the thematic connection and contrast between the brutality of nature and the softness of space. All tracks emerged as infantile jjjacob sketches, then taking more form and gaining inspirational matter from the collaborating artists' conduct and care, before finally being concluded by the final touches of jjjacob again.

The result is as the title suggests smooth and gentle at most times, but it does though have more wicked and harsh moments and aspects throughout the album. The emotional journey of the album keeps pendulating between the pleasant floating sensations of celestial emptiness and the brute mysticality of the unknown. At times it feels aerodynamic or dissolving, at others it tastes crispy and anthemic, but the overall output is definitely ethereal and cosmic.

04 (@filezerofour) emerges from Puerto Rico’s electric haze, now hides out in the steamy corners of South Florida. A conjurer of sound, 04 stitches together fragments of TV static and MMORPG glitchscapes, crafting tracks that feel like forgotten relics from another dimension.

Nostalgia drips, smears, and sinks into each songs, creating a treasure trove of tracks that feel like they’ve always existed. Like an old memory you can’t place, but you can’t let go of either.

Balancing analogue & acoustic soundworlds with digital and synthetic aesthetics, Stolen Velour, FLOCO & Aria SL first began working on the EP back in 2022. They debuted their lead single ‘Lilium’, a cover of the main theme to anime ‘Elfen Lied’ which is written in Latin, at Loughborough Junction’s Spanners alongside a lineup including Petal Supply, Himera, Iglooghost & Umru. Some months after, they continued to perform iterations of the track amongst other music at varied spots like The White Hotel & Laylow, which informed their approach to music as three collaborators. They eventually completed ‘Long Way Round’ over the summer of 2023 via several sessions across London & Leeds. In a sudden burst of creativity, they completed the final two tracks a year later, forming a fully-fledged EP spanning contemporary classical, folk, pop, experimental electronic and more. Using extended classical and experimental techniques within a pop music context, the EP foregrounds narrative leitmotifs to chronicle a departure from naivety and innocence into a darker, more complex world. With all three artists coming from their own corners of the music world, their EP ‘Holdfast’, named after the anchoring root system of seaweeds, enmeshes their love of synthetic & analogue technologies with the beauty inherent in periods of personal transformation.

The Beast. Chronicle of the Primordial Shadow
At the dawn of time, when the gods still debated the fate of the stars, a nameless creature was born, forged in the crucible of chaos. It was neither beast nor god, neither shadow nor light. It was The Beast, the echo of all that should not be.
The ancients called it Zarh'Nok, the Silent Hunger. It emerged from the collapse of a forgotten constellation, when the song of the worlds became a cry. Its body was an amalgam of broken myths: scales of an Iberian dragon, horns of a Celtic bull, wings of an Amazonian condor, and eyes that reflected the dreams of the dead.
For millennia, The Beast wandered between planes, devouring memories, erasing legends. Wherever it walked, bards fell silent, poets forgot their verses, and the gods trembled. But it wasn't evil that moved her, but a deep desire: to find her origin, her purpose, her true name.
One day, at the edge of the world, beneath the Temple of Submerged Voices, The Beast found a blind girl singing in ancient Basque. Her voice wove stories the creature couldn't devour. Intrigued, The Beast approached, and the girl said to her: "You are not the end. You are the beginning that no one wanted to remember."
The girl gave her a new name: Aintza, which in the ancient language means "she who was denied." And with that name, The Beast was transformed. She was no longer just hunger, but history. No longer a shadow, but myth.
