This is a song in a style similar to some old Jerry Reed songs.  I grew up with a lot of that music around and I still have an affinity for it.   
Now, having  Jeff sing it and write the lyrics is where the genius comes in haha.  When we were working on the last Smoking Trout New Mexico song I showed the gang some art and it had the Toad in the desert.  Jeff asked me if all the people on the bus licked the toad.  Haha, I said of course what do you think.  
So this is a continuation of sorts of a theme.  Like when you have a character on a show from another show as that same character.   Think Joanie & Chachi or Saul Goodman. The Toad now has a spin off.
I thought he did a great job with the narration style that these songs typically are written with.   And the lyrics speak for themselves. Enjoy!

We all know its coming, we don't like to think about it. But its one of the only thing that we are guaranteed of in this life. I ask myself this question over and over . What happens when we die. Is there a life after death? Where do we go when we die? a few of my friends have already made the journey and this is for them. If anyone knows the answer please, please let me know . First off i have to say a big Big thank you to my Son Rob for his great idea about the Pick up truck. Thanks Rob :-)  It really has added a new dimension to this little ole country tune . This is a real real " Pick me up Song " :-) The song is a  follow on song to "The Road" & " Ordinary guy. A song of Hope & friendship with a little sprinkling of Spirituality thrown in.  We all need someone to help us when we are down or Lost and in this song the " Pick up truck " symbolizes a friend or a spiritual belief. Something that we can relay on to help us through  the bad times. Just like an old pick up trunk sturdy & Reliable & Always goes the distance.

This song orignated with Jeff, who wrote a poem, which he set to a beat and a key with some very cool vocal processing. He sent it to me, and I added the bass and the synth lines. I had to, of course, got the rest of the Eclectic Collective involved. Ken came up with a solid, distinct beat, based loosely on my first take. I then redid my bass line to match up with Ken's drums, which is the way they seem to work best, sometimes going back and forth like that several times until they're locked in. Then, Tez and Stephen each added very distinct, supportive guitar tracks to fill it in. Tez comes through with the very Strat sounding bells ringing throughout. Stephen really shines with his textural tremolo playing throughout, as well as the rocking end. He also produced and mixed it expertly, as always. 

  This is the first time the Eclectic Collective has collaborated with Jeff, although both Josh and especially Stephen (as part of the band, The Smoking Trout) have made music with him before. We really enjoyed making a song based on his vocals, and Jeff is a welcome addition to our sound anytime. We all really enjoyed making this one. We hope you enjoy listening to it.

When I was young I played beneath a big old Lilac tree that was in my grandmothers garden and I felt safe when I was hidden in under the branches surrounded by the beautiful purple flowers and the pungent aroma of the Lilac perfume this was a safe and a happy place for me. This feeling has inspired me to write the Lilac tree and dedicate it to my Grandmother Lilly (Elizabeth) Her husband died very young and left her with 5 young children to bring up  by herself, she was an awesome woman and this song is for her. 

I would like to thank my friend Finn Eces for bringing this song to life with such feeling and beauty. Finn is an awesome producer and a truly amazing vocalist and Musician and a great songwriter. Thank you Finn for this truly beautiful Lilac Tree.

Certainly mankind has accomplished many good things during the course of human development.  But in his ignorance, greed, hunger for power, etc., also many bad ones. And it's all the bad ones that give us an increasingly broken planet and world to live in, where fresh water reserves are quickly running out, or becoming polluted all over the world.
We are not judging anyone, we are just asking you to think for a moment, because what we have done and continue to do to our planet and each other, is actually unsustainable for our future generations. We must ask; "how will the lack of vital fresh water in a few decades affect humanity's possibility of continued existence?"  Part 3 ponders the painful answer to that question.
