This new epic symphonic metalstep production comes from my first experiments of mixing with VSX headphones. The thick driving texture creates a sense of urgency and danger with a sci-fi game-style theme.

This Is My Life W/PJ Project

When I was young I played beneath a big old Lilac tree that was in my grandmothers garden and I felt safe when I was hidden in under the branches surrounded by the beautiful purple flowers and the pungent aroma of the Lilac perfume this was a safe and a happy place for me. This feeling has inspired me to write the Lilac tree and dedicate it to my Grandmother Lilly (Elizabeth) Her husband died very young and left her with 5 young children to bring up  by herself, she was an awesome woman and this song is for her. 

I would like to thank my friend Finn Eces for bringing this song to life with such feeling and beauty. Finn is an awesome producer and a truly amazing vocalist and Musician and a great songwriter. Thank you Finn for this truly beautiful Lilac Tree.

 A very big thank you to Doina Bora who's amazing playing has added immensely to the feel of the song. Thank you so much.

This latest Eclectic Collective song was probably the most collaborative in a true sense as we've yet released. The song began with Josh trying to piece together a couple of ideas that he'd come up with on the piano. He sent his ideas to JJ, who took out a connecter section that Josh had no intention of making anything of, and turned it into the body of the song. He returned the song to Josh complete with a signature JJ Terrell climactic coda. Then Josh added the bass to JJ's piano, with some help from the always solid drums from Ken. The way it usually goes is that Josh comes up with a scratch bass line to accompany the song, then Ken adds drums, then Josh goes back and adds the bass to fit the beat. Sometimes they go back and forth, but not this time so much. 

  Then, Stephen added the foundational guitar in the first section, and came up with the idea for the coda. Josh added some mandolin to the coda, too, after which Stephen redid the guitar in the coda to make it very dynamic and part the clouds. Tez finally came along and added the fiery solo and the charming fills in the main section. Most of this time, MD had been working on the narrative lyrics and refining his melodic vocals. Finally, Stephen put it all together for us and mixed it in his expert fashion. 

  We hope you enjoy the thrill of the climax, and also get a chuckle out of the lyrics, which are included below.

Early Time Late Night - The Eclectic Collective with Mysterious Decibel

I have some friends in Toronto who are serious students of West African Malinke drumming. This is an excerpt of a performance their band - Bolokelen - did in Kensington Market several years ago. I got to be a guest drummer on the Dun Dun (more specifically the Sangban - the colourful drum seen on the right side of this photo, played with a stick). Not my usual drum of choice (that would be Djembe or Congas) and it showed at times!

This photo is from the popular Afrofest show in Toronto, and the dancer is Tapa Diarra, a Malian singer now living in my home town Montreal. The fellow in the orange poncho is my best friend Frank, seen playing Dun Dun here.  :)

Just wanted to put up a few examples of my Latin & African drumming from back in the day since I am a drummer/percussionist first, but I don't have much here on Soundcloud.  apologies for the poor sound quality.
