Favorite Creations

This is a playlist of my video game related music.

The first track, "SolTera Theme Song" is the theme song for an upcoming post-apoc, crafting, voxel-based FPS I'm working on through Myth Tech Studios: www.mythtechstudios.com

The next two tracks are part of a full soundtrack I'm composing for a non-existent, modern, indie-style game, inspired heavily by Darren Korb's soundtrack for the game, Bastion ("Somber Souls..." is in progress).

The fourth track, "Sick Game," is a game-nostalgia-metal tune for which I wrote the lyrics and composed & produced the vocals. The composer of the music and I are planning to produce a full song based on this short tune.

The next five tracks are all 8-bit NES-style chiptunes; The track, "Mötæ - Shutter..." is an 8-bit, note-for-note replication of a tune by a band with which I formerly sang and composed. The other four songs are original compositions intended to convey different classic game styles.

"Super Mario Chipstep" was the first song I wrote in FL Studio after about a decade of being away from electronic music production. The focus was on trying to learn a bit about NI's Massive while having fun sampling from Super Mario Bros.

My friend and musical colleague The Panpsychist (Cody Richards) sent me an instrumental track he had started working on. I was so inspired by it that I stayed up all night writing and recording vocals for it. Here's what it sounds like in its current state. The drummer from motae will be joining us on this piece and laying drums for it soon as well.


Sick Game (The Panpsychist ft. Joshua Du Chene) [Work in Progress]

I met Dutch musician Tijmen Riedé during a trip to the Netherlands a few years ago. He wrote an electronic interlude track called "Reflections" for an album I produced in 2012 with my band, mötæ (motae.bandcamp.com). Tijmen sent me "2210" while I was living in China last year, and it was so exciting that I wrote and recorded vocals for it the night he sent it to me. I just now got around to mixing it and posting it, so here it finally is!

LYRICS:

Did you see it coming all along?
You knew the rest of the world was longing for something more than you could ever give.
Yet you still let it live a lie.

Why am I afraid of all this big talk?
Why can’t I imagine what comes next?
Why were you the only one I trusted?

2210 - Tijmen Riedé ft. Joshua Du Chene

Dark Secret was written in a style reminiscent of NES fantasy/RPG games. I imagined this song could be used as the theme to a game of this style, or possibly as an underworld theme.
