A brief excerpt of the guitar concerto I wrote for my longtime friend, French guitarist Jérémy Jouve & the Listen Ensemble.  Premiered in France in May 2015, "L'Imitation du sommeil" ("The Imitation of Sleep") was inspired by a short text by the surrealist Gaston Dehoy, in which a sleeper invents dream after dream to protect him from the sun in a "shadowless country." The music is therefore an hour-long series of dreams in which the soloist, Jérémy, is the principal dreamer, whose dreams are accompanied and shared by the Listen Ensemble.  Instead of a paper score and parts, the entire piece is controlled by a generative system I made in MaxMSP, which tells the performers what to play (and when), and ensures that each performance will be different.  This recording was made during the second performance on 13 December 2015 at Les Passerelles in Pontault-Combault, France.

“Total Mind” is a transcendental sonic saga about the unrevealed; a hyper melodic, indefinite trip into cycles of creation, demise, rebirth and what lies beyond. Through the utilization of sounds from a broader dance music palette, Swedish duo Quit Life crafts a lucid and captivating ambiance representing either a very remote future or a distant past all interlinked through ecstatic trance harmonies, responsive rythmic arrangements and downpitched voices of guidance.

In the era where virtual artifacts can create realities, media is not merely mediating realties anymore, but creating them itself. Entering the new decade, we have witnessed many virtual beings creating new realities: for instance, Hatsune Miku, a virtual being, will appear on Coachella 2020, there are projects that use AI to resurrect the dead such as 2pac, and there is a brand new chapter of the Matrix saga on the way. Because of the mass consumption and production of our highly computerized and automated society, imperfections such as the moderate randomness and gaps created by analogs seem ironically fresh. An "Aesthetic of Imperfections”, if you will, that the “Qunatization” compilation aims to express to our quantized society.
