SWEET SONGS FOR THE DYING

Ron Spielman has been highly regarded for decades by those in the know for his guitar playing and excellent songwriting. With his new sidekicks Uwe Breunig and Joh Weisgerber (both of "The Ruffcats") and Werner Goldbach he's brought himself into bad company.

»Spielman In Bad Company« fortunately for us! Because in the bleak alleys of the morbid music industry the four country boys cook up a mean stew of music: The soul of the blues apparently survived the apocalypse and shines here in full splendor, spiced with noisy elements from the worlds of electronic and hip hop and everything else picked up along the way.

Quirky and full of respect for the old masters of the genre, the quartet has redefined this tradition-steeped music. Because with all the hard-earned life-experience they've accumulated they hammer a completely new pulse into the blues in countless jams. Undisguised, gripping — let's call it neo-blues.

»Sweet Songs for the Dying« emerged through collective work and through the creative process. Again and again the musicians met each other for jam sessions, to feel out moods and atmospheres and to grasp them. "Our main concern was taking these moods and collectively developing them into finished pieces," says Ron Spielman. The material was collected, enriched, thrown away or developed further.

Finally »Sweet Songs for the Dying« was recorded live in the studio. „With time it became clear to us that something special was arising, a fully new interpretation of an old style.
