The piece describes a scene of spring returning to a meadow in the mountains. It starts out with the harp and is joined by solo clarinet and english horn with a light, skipping, jig like melody with counter melodies in the flutes. The piece then broadens to feature the strings and brass. The horns take the melody with a soaring counter in the trumpets. The percussion beats steadily louder until it reaches a crescendo and then fades to hand the melody back to the clarinets and double reeds with a final woodwind section feature with celeste accompaniment.
