2022 is here and we kick it off with a bang by letting Qwirk loose on his debut EP for the label following his fine form over the past 12 months (or so) for the label. With two tracks front and centre on the last two instalments of our Free Dubstep series, plus something a bit different in his 140 Breaks remix for label founders Tik&Borrow on their 'Erebus & Terror' EP last summer, he was someone we were keen to give his own release so he can show you what he's all about...and he doesn't disappoint!

Qwirk brings two slices of his grime laced dubstep, with lead track 'Bubbly' being the perfect combination of wobbles and squarewaves that will have all the heads reaching for the gunfingers. Second track 'Oppress' is a stompier affair, but one we've been reaching for since we got the demo early last year - he showcases his awesome musical prowess in abundance on this one.

On remixes we have a stellar line-up of newcomer to the label (but not to the scene!) S3 Dubs and our very own breaks menace Ekula. They both tackle 'Oppress', with S3 Dubs going for a darker approach that hits you right in the feels. Ekula takes it up a notch as only he can, with a 140 breaks rethink of the track that powers the sub right at you whilst sprinkling in some lovely breaks for good measure.

With a deep-rooted background in drum & bass, Komodo is known for delivering captivating sets that navigate a range of intricate rhythms and sounds. His journey started after discovering Brisbane’s underground DNB scene and outdoor events in SEQ, which had him hooked immediately and ignited his passion to start mixing. These grassroot gatherings and events still guide his musical evolution—and keeps him grounded in the community that inspired him.

Over the years, he developed his sound and style, crafting journeys that flow through genres such as DNB, 140 and halftime. Komodo has shared the stage with international artists including Paige Julia, Hypho, PAV4N, S.P.Y., General Levy, Mungo’s Hifi, and Halogenix, and performed at notable festivals including Imbolc in South Australia, Initiation Festival over New Year's Eve in 2023, and Archaic Gathering in North Queensland. With each set he remains committed to evolving, looking for ways to creatively push boundaries and deliver captivating performances.
