YES! ever realized that dystopian future project?

Lua Preta (@luapreta) is an Angolan/Polish duo that has taken the global bass scene by storm in the past few years. Since the end of 2017 they managed to put out a series of successful releases, play a great deal of well-received shows at festivals and clubs all over Europe (plus two gigs in New York), shoot a bunch of music videos (one of them being filmed in Lisbon) and catch attention of @brankoofficial himself who remixed their song for his renowned 'Enchufada Na Zona' compilation. In 2020 they went on to prepare a debut album called 'Diaspora' - a seven tracks collection showcasing their characteristic catchy Afro sound which included 'Baile Lotus' (played by Diplo in his BBC Radio 1 show), 'Vim Para Vencer' (collaboration with South African rapper Robin Thirdfloor) and 'Drena' (featured in an official Spotify playlist by Adidas).

Now five of the songs from the last year's release come back with new versions prepared by producers from five different countries. United States' @tonyquattro highlights Ms. Gia's vocals from 'Drena' and freshens up the beat by adding guitar riffs and swirling flutes. @djraff, one of the most important electronic music artists from Chile, skilfully slows down 'Baile Lotus' and in an unexpected turn of events pairs it with cumbia turning the track into a Latin-flavoured beauty. Further into the release, Africa's star producer @gafacci adds his signature style to the instrumental side of 'Ao Som Dos Homens' - but don't worry: Ghanaian's famous 'shut your mouth I beg eh' vocal hook is very much there.

'Diaspora Remixes' finishes off with two remixes by European artists. Firstly, original vocals take the centre stage again in the club-ready rework of 'Sente Batida' by respected Italian producer @lamentomusic. Last but not least, French drum master @ruffkaval provides a perfect closing track with his wonderfully crafted version of 'RTE' which has been enriched by additional thumping patterns and... birdsongs.

Here's a new joint.... It's been a while since I dropped something on my own (not a collabo or a label release). So it's nice to get back to basics. 

I'm really keen on exploring a darker mood on my tracks. On this one, I'm visualising a dystopian future, the aftermath of climate change perhaps, a wasteland with few humans and items of consumption scattered around, rendered useless.

What about a whole project with this vibe? Your thoughts?

Baile Lotus

We can hardly believe it ourselves, but our little label just turned fifteen. In human terms it would mean we´re teenagers in full swing, in dance music terms it´s like we´re silver agers. In the fast paced world of dance we´ve seen a lot of trends come and go. We´ve also seen artist careers rising quickly to the top and then suddenly crumbling. And despite the profound changes in the musical landscape, we´re still here and people still play our music. One of the reasons is that we stuck to our original aim: To release exciting music from around the world. And the interest in local music styles from outside the Anglo-Saxon cultural sphere has risen.

Since Man 01, the "Não Wave - Brazilian Post Punk 1979-1988" compilation, we were especially keen on blending local roots with the global in music, which has become a mega trend in pop and dance music. When we started the label in 2005 the internet was still a privilige of the Northern hemisphere and people were still buying vinyls and CDs.

Since we can´t throw a big celebration for our anniversary due to pandemic restrictions, we decided to put together a compilation with remixes of fifteen tracks from our catalogue. We asked young and upcoming remixers that grew up with the Man Recordings sound over all these years, to put their hand onto selected tracks and rework them 2020 style. 

The line up is great and the remixes even greater. The "15 Years Of Man Recordings" compilation features reworks by Ckrono, Lorenzo BITW, 2Pekes, Rolv.K, Kensaye, KG, Don Low, Bianca Oblivion and So Vital amongst others. There´s some super fresh takes on our former releases, and some solid club compatible bangers. They all resonate that Man Recordings is here to stay!
