Dear listeners, welcome to another episode of the Identity formation listening sessions. While we usually only publish podcasts on the first Sunday of the month, we have decided to release some podcasts from our collection to give you the opportunity to enjoy this quite time with some new soothing music. Our ninth installment is curated by none other than Jeroen Smulders, also known by his artistic moniker "Monosphere", and the the visionary mind behind @deep_electronic.

Monosphere aka Jeroen Smulders from the Netherlands is the founder of Deep Electronics, a deep music podcast and netlabel that explores the deep diversity in music. He was introduced to electronic music in the 80s with the music of Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis. In the 90's he explored the many genres such as techno, ambient and goa/psychedelic trance as well as artists from the past such as Klaus Schultz and Kraftwerk. In later years, his interest in more experimental and deeper electronic music led him to dubtechno and dub-related subgenres.

In 2013 he started his channel to collect this music and other genres in tracks and guest mixes from all over the world, combined with his own photography.

He has also released many sets on prestigious channels such as Poisonoise, Dub Explorations from Quandrant Soundscape, Spclnch, Dub Techno TV, Feed the Raver and many more. In 2023 he'll be celebrating 10 years of podcasting and more than 35 years of listening to electronic music.

As we embark on this auditory exploration, let the waves of sound wash over you, carrying you to realms where emotion and melody intertwine. Once in a while you come across something of extraordinary quality by pure coincidence. This occurred when Rodney from the Woods attended an event a couple months back and got in touch with the friendly Julius, who appears to be a huge contributor to the scene and, above all, a likeminded soul to the Stately sound. 

Having spent years collecting records and being a dedicated admirer to the scene, Julius has over time mastered the craft himself as well, which he proves by delivering this stellar mix to our podcast series. It’s safe to say that this is one of the highest quality mixes on our channel so far.

It's really such a pleasure for me to have one of my favorite producers here as a guest DJ in the mix for some Moments Of Light 'n Darkness. You find his tracks regularly in my sets. I love his way to interpretate dub techno and dark ambient stuff also. He also has a wide range of styles in his background wether more housy stuff or some weird and sonic eighties flavours.
Now he comes with such a deep and ritch dubby set with so much light and energy. 

Here's what he is saying about it personally: "I've been a fan of Kerstin's MLD series for a while so it's a privilege to be asked to contribute a guest mix. It's a selection of faster, harder tracks which is a side of dub techno I think is often overlooked. As I often play these records alongside newer releases, I realized most of those classics were more than 25 years old, I thought of compiling them together to show where dub tech comes from and how timeless most of these tracks are...Take a record like Round Four, discovered for a lot of people like me on Daniel Bell's mix (2000) The button down mind of Daniel Bell. More than 25 years onwards, you can look at a record like this, alongside Baby Ford and early Ricardo Villalobos as the blueprint for modern minimal and dubby electronic music, but that would imply that those genres later improved upon the overall formula. In reality, few got even close to as good as this. The origins of a genre is often more important than newer releases. Vainqueur is René Löwe famous from the Chain Reaction label. The B.C. track isn't Basic channel but a moniker which consists of Robert Leiner (Visions of the past) and Cisco Ferreira (The Advent). G-Man, whose productions were way ahead of its time on Force inc is Gez Varley from L.F.O. one half of it (other was Mark Bell), Quadrant is another moniker used by Basic channel, the EP was released in 1993 on R&S records the legendary Belgium label, and later repressed on Carl Craig's Planet E.

I have experienced a lot of different electronic types and styles during my musical biography which began in the 8oies as a teen with Postpunk and dark wave and develloped further with Ska, Reggae, Jungle, Drum 'n Bass and Techno. Reggae and the Jamaician Soundsystem Culture had also a big influence to me, after visiting Jamaica for two times at the end of the 90ies...

Dubtechno became a very special role to me cause of it's introvert meditative attitude which fits very good to me now in the present time.

So music is much more than entertainment to me and shaped my personality by getting much energy from it.
And this is something, what I want to bring over in my diverse and gengre overarching mixes.

P.S.: I distance myself from any extremist ideas and religious or political brainwashing ideas. As well as stigmatization of any kind. I do this to the best of my knowledge and belief.
