Our latest sonic journey is a heartfelt gift from our dear friend, fellow dreamer and poet with words and sounds, @eeeeeeeugenia. We met at a very special gathering in rural Germany some years back and then kept bumping into each other on sandy dancefloors around Europe. You know what they say, bonds made on the dancefloor run deep and last an eternity, and this one is definitely the case ♥️

Eugenia’s musical sensibility is a harmonious union between her Italian heritage and her former Californian home. It is full of wild colours and complex scents, rich in deeply felt emotions and vivid memories. Her Introspective mix is a finely crafted hour of dusty pianos, undulating drones, warm and tingly downtempo and abstract grooves all peacefully co-existing in a slow-motion dance. In her own words, this mix somehow feels like a goodbye to the time she spent back in Bologna over these past spring and summer months ✨💌✨

As time goes by taste seems to change and evolve. I wouldn’t put the accent so much on change but I guess things mature with age. Almost reaching the 50th recording, this mix will air on my birthday! Not quite 50 yet but getting closer and still listening to a lot of music I used to love when I wasn't even 20. Those formative years laid the foundations for what I am playing today: a strong cocktail of cosmic, ambient, tribal, dubby techno all held together by the powers of trance. Always keeping an eye on the past but looking towards the future... Let’s see if we can reach 100 and if the fix will still be the same?

The concept I had in mind for this mix was loose at the beginning. I wanted to create something that was happy, uplifting and melodic, as opposed to anything dark during these already dark times (and it’s very easy for me to go that way) I ended up turning to a lot of 90’s (and new but 90’s influenced) music, a couple of classics and reissues, and found myself dreaming of new worlds - that era of music had the most amazing power to transport you for some reason. 

The mix starts off with Ambient, but quickly moves into more dub, uptempo, breaks, beats and full-on Trance... Those of you who know me well, know I love Trance music and surprisingly this is the first time I’ve managed to sneak it into an ASIP mix.

I saw this mix as a route to escapism, a look out of the window, and a journey that just goes up and up.

ASIP - Dream The Daydream

Earlier this year a new project emerged from Amsterdam made up of a pair of familiar producers operating beneath a new guise. Darcey Electronics is made up of Darling and Tracey, two stellar musicians in their own right who have each released music in various capacities over many years. Collectively they have released music on the likes of Aus, Safe Trip, Dial, Intergraded, Off Minor and Voyage Direct.

They both live and breathe music and operate amidst a collective of inspiring Amsterdam producers who have established their own take on dance and electronic music - channeling influences from house, techno, ambient and IDM. It is the latter two genres which perhaps best informed the pairs first release under the collaborative moniker. Released on Pleasant Life earlier in 2020 the EP was well received and widely supported, showcasing abstract experimentation and playful melodic flurries which based upon the set below seems to be a hallmark of their taste and style.
