My love for all kinds of rave music from back in the day re-emerged during hibernation (UK lockdown 3) and after digging around for months on end to get the right tracks together, I've now recorded some mixes - straight up DJ sets using a pair of technics 1200s and a Rane62 mixer. Mostly oldskool underground classics with the occasional newer tune thrown in. This is the first of a four part mix series - links to the others below.

MDBTS (RAVE DREAMING) Vol.1

DK digs a little deeper into the vinyl vaults for the second half, starting with a boogie selection from Windy City, Universal Robot Band, Wickett and onto Buddy Miles, Don Thomas and two P & P classics from Queen Yahna and Florence. It's back to 1969 for killer Tropicalia from Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso, then Northern Soul at it's finest with Roy Roberts and a couple of funk 45's from The Touch and Backyard Heavies. We cross to Belgium for Placebo, Canada for electronic wizardry from L'Infonie and Czechoslovakia for Jazzrockova Dilna. David Axelrod crosses over with Charles Stepney's Rotary Connection,  followed by two modern soul classics from Michael Kiwanuka and Raphael Saadiq, before taking it down with Arnold Blair, The Prime Element, Gil Scott Heron and finishing with the sublime Irresistable Force mix of Autumn Leaves by Coldcut.

Solid Steel Radio Show 13/12/2013 Part 3 + 4 - DK

Back by dope demand, I’ve decided to add to my ‘rave dreaming’ mix series. Like the others, this is a multi-genre DJ set thrown down using two technics 1200s and a Rane 62 mixer. The mix basically centres around early 90s Acid House, Oldskool Breakbeat Hardcore & Jungle Tekno, although I also dropped a few recent releases in there - weaving in some Bruk, UK Bass, Dub Step & Techno for good measure. It’s a proper mission joining the dots between that many genres, but I wouldn’t have it any other way - I love the challenge! Let me know if you’re feeling it.

Mikey V is a producer, DJ and vocalist from Los Angeles, California who has been a staple in the West Coast underground house scene since the early 2000's. While throwing LA's HAWT underground parties, Mikey signed his first 3 EP's to Luke Solomon & Derrick Carter's Classic Music Company in 2013. He has compiled a versatile discography of productions and vocal releases on labels such as Classic Music Company, Paradise, Robsoul, DFTD,  Snatch!, Hot Creations, Toolroom, Strictly Rhythm & Dirtybird.
Mikey has also collaborated with industry heavyweights such as Riva Starr, Oliver Dollar, DJ Sneak, Phil Weeks, Blakkat, Wheats, Brett Johnson & Nathan Barato.

'This is a Journey into Beats 'n' Frames' famously riffs off of two classic Coldcut trademarks and checks the render setting to 'highest'. St. Petersburg's Mr Armtone becomes only the second person to have a guest AV mix on Solid Steel, supplying a packed hour with his trademark tight mixes and equally syncopated imagery . Each video has undergone his own edits, remixes and tweaks and the quality is top notch throughout. It features music and visuals from the Ninja Tune stable with Daedelus, Hexstatic, Diplo, DJ Kentaro and Coldcut all making an appearance, plus more from Tipper, Ian Brown and the Pixies remixed by Bassnectar.
