Being named a resident at Berghain is likely an unattainable dream for so many DJs, but for Sedef Adasi, it all happened naturally. The Turkish producer grew up in the mid-sized Bavarian city of Augsburg, where a lack of spaces she felt comfortable with—she's mentioned DJing in shoe stores—led her to start her own party, HAMAM Nights. From there she made her name with a vibrant, diverse sound that encompasses breaks, electro, techno and more, with soft-focus melodies and plenty of vocal hooks. She's one of the first residents at the legendary club to truly reflect the glorious cross-pollination of dance music styles in the '10s, when techno absorbed ideas from dubstep, garage and more. 

Adasi represents both floors of that club, and you could imagine this RA Podcast going down in either room, but of course, she exists outside that club's narrative too. What you'll hear here is a cutting-edge and dynamic blend of electro and Latin techno—with two tracks from 2022 MVP Nick León—mixed with grace and finesse. Her sound is immediately approachable, well-paced and full of catchy moments and breakdowns. Listen and find out.

Low pad from DPO, ducked by kick drum. Wood block percussion from Plaits on offset beat. Randomized tonal burst from Pulsar into STO on an uneven interval. Soft pulse stab from Chords oscillator, with echo. Note sequence by Klee sequencer, driven by Tempi clock source. Distortion and flanger effect through TSR 10 amp. Reverb and additional distortion in the DAW.

Patch notes:

Pulsar generates 4 lanes (blue, purple, green, red) of looping pulses, which are changed slightly during the recording. Lane 1 moves the Klee sequencer forward. 

Klee provides a loop of pitches, and a second loop of modulation values. The pitch signal is quantized and distributed to the voices.

Blue voice is the main voice, consisting of a square wave with PWM from Doepfer Miniature Synthesizer Voice, mixed with a square from Jupiter Storm oscillator. Voice 1 is modulated in a variety of ways: envelope speed by the modulation loop on Klee, filter cutoff (FM1) by LFO, PWM rate by sine from Mino oscillator.

Purple voice is a bass from STO oscillator through a low pass gate (Meng Qi DPLPG, with an envelope from Delptronics Module One. "Shape" modifier of STO Is modulated by LFO.
Green voice is a high "blip", a saw from Mino oscillator through the other channel of DPLPG.
Red voice is a hi hat-like pulse generated by pinging the AI Synthesis OTA filter (plus some digital shaping.)
Doepfer VC Slew Processor / Generator serves as LFO.
Playing the patch involves adjusting the patterns on Pulsar, the pitch sequence on Klee, parameters on blue voice and purple voice, and playing the LFO to as it feeds into the blue voice filter.
The voices are recorded in Loopy Pro on iPad, where a little reverb, delay and compression is added, along with granular atmosphere from Bram Bos / Hainbach Fluss plug-in. Blue voice receives sidechain compression from purple voice.
The name of the track, Clover, is the English translation of German "Klee", the name of the sequencer used.
