I am Ukraine. Or least my grandmother was.

Other than heritage, I don't have a direct connection to the land, language, or people. When the invasion began, Ukraine was on my mind constantly. This track started as something else in late 2021, but as the invasion continued, musical ideas formed from the news I was absorbing, and what I could only imagine the Ukraine people are experiencing.

There is a single synth, affectionately referred to as the "wobble" in the project file, that is the solo instrument in the track. It doesn't move much in pitch, and instead it uses rhythm and oscillation to dance and fight through the soundscape. It evolves as you listen, telling a story. Whatever story you hear, understand that this is a song of hope.

Special thanks to the Ukraine soldiers of Snake Island for their very important contribution to this track.

This set was first performed on January 1st 2024 in San Francisco at the Breakfast of Champions block party on the Space Cowboys main stage.

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. It's a live/hybrid set.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

I couldn't think of a more beautiful way to close out 2+ years of immersive music, infectious vibes, connectivity, and LOVE. I deeply thank everyone who attended and contributed to Subtle Sol on this night and any other night before.
