Way Out

I wrote this song on New Years Day.  It was cold and rainy and contemplative.  Instead of writing a resolution, I decided to write this.  My intention for 2021 was ‘vulnerability’ and I thought an expressive piece would be more vulnerable than writing a list.  The guitar was all improvisation.  I wanted it to feel like you’re reading one of my journal entries.  I wanted to let you in, to take you with me into a moment of my life and write you something that feels like you have a friend in the room with you during these really lonely times.  

The sounds you hear are on a walk with my dog when I first got the idea to make this what you’re about to hear.  I was enjoying the light rain from under the umbrella, boots squishing in the leaves, a trickling of water falling from a truck into a puddle.  I thought it would be nice for you to take the walk with me in real time while the idea untangled from my mind.  I recorded, still damp, right after the walk.

“A Letter to You” is just that.  An introduction.  An intention.  A promise.  

Thank you to artists like adrienne lenker and nick drake who gave me artistic permission to present one of my meditative voice memos as a completed piece.  Because it is.
