Kurt Lorenz - Abyssal

Born on the island of Schiermonnikoog, my musical journey started on the local village church organ. In my high school years I bought an antique honky-tonk piano with baroque cupper candles. During college years in Groningen, my love for New Wave music became influenced by the raw energy of symphonic rock. I performed in various rock bands such as Icarus and Leader. In my early twenties my musical friend for life Hans introduced me to the magical world of home recording. Together we formed  the composer duo "Two Men Left" (two lefthanded musicians, lol). After almost 25 years we still collaborate, making use of the internet and two almost identical home recording studios. Much of my recent work on Soundcloud was produced by TML. Multi-instrumentalists Joe Love & Kurt Lorenz are an electronic-rock/industrial duo from Seattle WA. They have been playing together since early 2013 but each has more than 20 years experience creating, producing & playing music. 

Joe is an accomplished guitar player and instructor whose style ranges from classic blues to hard rock to experimental textures. He has played with local Seattle bands Loaded Fiction, Alien Autopsy, and Black Atmosphere. 

Kurt has been producing electronic music since the mid-1980’s and has released material on several independent labels. He was also co-founder of Ember Music, an international artist-run electronic music label. (2010-2020)

Original Songs Only
No Half songs, no minute-long bits, no skits, no bullshit, and especially NO COVERS. Just good ol' "Seattle Magic." All the songs posted here will be original demos, with only guitar and voice (or piano and voice, coming soon). Once I buy a better mic in the next couple weeks here, i'll have more professional recordings. I'll also hopefully have a youtube channel up soon. For all the demos i post here, I'll always post the lyrics, since I really like to emphasize the importance of lyrics. I've have been doing both fiction and songwriting consistently since middle school and im 22, so i take words pretty serious. I have a very minimalistic, Ernest Hemingway style of music. That is, I like to make music stripped down to its bare elements, music which stands on its own, without computer influence, or multiple tracks, or anything.  Just lyrics, melody, and rhythm (and capo!). The kind of songs you can bust out drunk at a party, as long as you got a guitar. The kind of songs that might get you laid one day, like that scene in Stranger in Fiction when Will Ferrell busts out "Whole Wide World" on guitar in this girl's apartment and gets his ass laid on the spot, even though his singing sucked. I'm talking about the kind of songs you don't need a mixer or a synthesizer or anything to perform. Not to insult computer music. I like a lot of it. That's just not what I do.

Go ahead and download or repost or share any of these songs, I encourage it. Just as long as you don't call them you're own, or else.  I should have a pretty steady output here over the next weeks, since i have more unrecorded originals than i can even keep track of. I'm hoping to start playing at bars and coffee shops pretty soon here, just gotta talk to the right people. I also encourage anyone who wants to cover any of these songs, especially better singers and people with better recording equipment. i don't profess to be an awesome at singing right now, only at songwriting. if you're interested in doing a cover, i can shoot you the lyrics with chords. Just be sure to give proper credit back to this profile.
