The new song 'Curuba' has us hanging up our snow shoes and folding umbrellas for a return to swampy dance nights in empty swimming pools with luminescent cocktails. Pulsing arpeggios weave with sultry drifting banjos, the crimson horizon is just in the distance; and even knowing our winter may return, this is a welcome tropical intermission.

Flutes, Echoes, It's All Happening! is the fourth in an ongoing series of highly collaborative records by Carlos Niño & Friends, and features Madlib, Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Iasos, Luis Pérez Ixoneztli, Dexter Story, and more!

Los Angeles’ Carlos Niño is the exalted producer, composer, percussionist, DJ, ensemble orchestrator, and mentor who has traversed the multitude of music scenes the city has birthed within the last two decades. Host of the influential Spaceways Radio (1995-2015) on KPFK LA, his curation of playlists run in complete parallel to his original compositions and collaborations collected on this album: “Psychedelic Love Music and classic, obscure and experimental recordings from around the world!”. This is Space Collage Hybrid music!

FEIAH was recorded in California - mostly in the greater Los Angeles are, with Iasos' contributions coming from up North in Marin County. The material spans a number of years, through to March 2015.  Carlos remarks on the material, “I rarely throw anything away, and in this case, a few pieces I'd started and archived were brought back to the forefront as they vibrationally matched with the project. There is overlap in space, time, and sound with these records”. A standout in the FEIAH album arch is from The Cosmic Band and Kamasi Washington, a one-of-a-kind orchestration by Niño as a final send-off performance captured live on his Spaceways Radio show March 22nd 2015. “It was a wonderful night! We opened with an improvisation where I read the names of almost everyone that had ever been on the show with me including Pharoah Sanders, Yusef Lateef, and Donovan. We played a few classics, then ended with a 30 minute guided improvisation that the bonus Kamasi track "On Into Rise" was excerpted from.”

MoM, DJ based out the Andalusia’s city of Cordoba.

His first experiences with mixing tables was back in

1989 when he was attracted by acid house music and

the latest pieces on funky and disco music. His first

professional experience at a DJ booth was around

techno music at clubs like Teiker and Plató, two of the

most renowned clubs in Cordoba.

In 1993 is when he started to listen to the first deep

records through WORKS music label. During this

period is when he met a DJ with more experience,

Miguel Martín who introduced him to the richness and

depth of electronic music. The Spanish music label

CONTRASEÑA was still publishing the latest records of

electronic guitar but it also had a special connection

with the dance floors through their depth.

Miguel’s influence on MoM was such, that even years

after Miguel’s death in 2009, he created a radio show

called “mut&mut” along with the speaker Jesús

Zamora. The name of the show was a tribute to “MUT”

the name of the only maxi-single published by Miguel

Martín.

MoM ́s experience and creativity allowed him to take

on a new professional challenge: leading Pep ́s

Records marketing department in Madrid.

After a few years of working and achieving good

results he decides to create Carta de Ajuste

Comunicación ,his own Management and Marketing

agency. During this period he performed sessions in

Córdoba, Sevilla, Tarifa, Caños de Meca, Marbella,

Madrid, along with various cities around Spain.

His sessions are mainly based on house and tech-
house but in 2009 he rediscovers his passion for deep

music and starts exploring with darker sounds and

slower speeds.

This is where his Chic ́n ́deep sessions were born, full

of depth, slowing down to even 120 BPM.

Please meet Ricardo Vincenzo, your shaman from Sao Paolo for the next hour in the next Urban Cosmonaut Radio podcast #24.

But he’s not just a shaman - he’s also an avid collector of samples and an audio collage enthusiast with exquisite taste in forgotten old songs and Brazilian tropicalia infused music. In a melange of leftover samples, organic shamanic sounds and spiritual tunes, we are immersed in sounds and spheres unique to him. 

Having learned the piano as a kid, Ricardo had been making experimental music for a few years before starting his solo project, which he describes as having more dance floor friendly elements. His productions are inflenced by funk carioca music, which also produced as live sets with samples, repetitive phases and vocal percussions. 

Like a chef creating a culinary experience, we’re hungry to discover the sound scapes he has cooked for us and say: Bom apetite!

Chrissy has always been an enthusiastic ‚groupie' of DJs who play music that touches her heart and soul. She has been full of admiration and fascination for their talents to tell musical stories that connect the party people and let them become one unity.  She dreamed of being a DJ herself one day but she never believed in it and was too scared to stand on stage and perform….Then, two years ago some great friends around her encouraged her to realize her dreams and so her own DJ story began…
With her sets and gigs she has found a medium to express her deepest feelings and share them with others. She loves deep, spheric and melancholic tunes. If you know Chrissy personally, you will know about her love for Max Cooper’s sound. She could talk about his versatile creations the whole day and has been influenced a lot by his compositions, live shows and DJ gigs.
As she loves traveling and changing her places of residence, she already has played in various countries like the UK, Ecuador, Egypt and her current residential country Germany. At the moment she is really excited about her first gig in Berlin!

This set is a present for her mother's birthday. It tells the story of Lucia who follows a mysterious dog to the beach on a full moon night....

Archaeological evidence from prehistoric times suggests that the Earth was once viewed as a living, female being. Ancient texts and mythologies support the idea of a female deity associated with the earth and all life. The Phyrigian Earth Mother Kybele was one such figure among many and represented the earth, mountains, caverns, and all nature, the birth of humanity, the universe and everything in it. 

Inspired by this timeless and universal vision, this project is dedicated to featuring and celebrating the bounty and beauty of the creative works of women in music through special podcasts, original releases, and mixtapes curated by women producers, DJs, and musicians of a wide range of genres from around the world. 

In addition to highlighting the works of women in music, Kybele develops opportunities for broader inclusion of and greater collaboration among emerging and established artists  of all backgrounds through the "Friends of Kybele" series.
