Happy 2025 to all the Idlers out there! We're back with our first mix missive of the year - and it's a doozy. When it comes to edit records, so much has already been done. These London-based boys decided to ditch the well-trod paths of Disco, Boogie & Soul to dive headfirst into the devil's maw that is American Rock & Country music, making some of the best we’d heard in awhile, subtly turning some of the stodgiest 60's & 70's shitkicker jams into glorious glitterball anthems. The fact that they're kickass DJ's to boot made this decision a no-brainer! Ladies & germs, please welcome to the Idle Cellars Mix Series stable - Flying Mojito Bros! These two fine gents were extremely gracious - if not eager! - to tackle the Idle Cellars brief and we all have hit the jackpot. Presenting "Americana Pacifica" - we would call it Balearica re-imagined through the lens of US AOR, soft rock, country and more. Accompanying the mix is this message from FMB:

Rugged, saline guitar jams and sea-smoothed rock – from really recent finds to long-cherished shoreline treasures once popped in our pockets for another day, another day. Well – yesterday's mañana has come. Tout droit venu du Japon où il était vendeur de vinyles chez Kent Record, un records shop spécialisé house, jazz et soul, Motomitsu y organise beaucoup d'événements : soirées, expositions, concerts et y  invite des artistes et DJs internationaux comme Terrence Parker et Abdul Haqq. Lors de ses DJ sets, passionné et souriant, Motomitsu contamine le public de sa débordante énergie positive.

Avec deux morceaux sur Cherry Juice Recordings, Motomitsu prépare actuellement des nouvelles tracks.

A global band in the largest sense of the world, Khruangbin takes inspiration from Thai funk to the sounds of Spain and the Middle East, particularly Iran. The music of the dreamy Texan trio is rooted in the deepest waters of world music infused with classic soul, dub and psychedelia. They perform a DJ set in advance of the release of their new album, Con Todo El Mundo, out on 26 January 2017.

Khruangbin Guest Mix on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Basement // 18-01-2018

Steve Cobby is a producer, musician and DJ from Hull, UK. His first commercial outing was with Ashley & Jackson, a short-lived project signed to Big Life records in 1988. When they were dropped, he co-founded Pork Recordings and Fila Brazillia in 1990. Fila released 12 critically acclaimed LPs as well as produced over 70 remixes for artists as diverse as Radiohead, Busta Rhymes, Black Uhuru, Simple Minds, James, A Certain Ratio and Moloko. 

His first paid DJ set was in 1985. He has since gone on to play all four corners of the globe from Sydney to San Francisco, New York to Tokyo as well as performing live in Europe, Japan, and the US with Fila. With David Brennand he established the iconic label Pork Recordings in 1990. An imprint that went on to become internationally acclaimed for its quality and integrity. The acclaimed compilation series "Another Late Night" was kickstarted by Fila’s mix in 2000. They also co-produced "Afghan Whigs", Greg Dulli's debut Twilight Singers LP and co-wrote with seminal US composer Harold Budd and UK legend Bill Nelson for the Three White Roses collaboration. 

Steve's other projects include Heights Of Abraham, JSTARS, The Cutler, Hey Rube, Chieftain and Citrus with Richard H Kirk. He now releases all solo work on his own Déclassé imprint. His solo LP "Saudade" garnered considerable critical acclaim, selling its limited-edition-run in spring 2014. The follow-up "Everliving" was named in Piccadilly Records' top 100 LPs of the year in 2015. The third solo outing "Hemidemisemiquaver" received similar glowing praise.
