Prolific Sheffield artist Yarni's 2021 afrobeat beaut 'Transitions' gets a rework from Monologues boss Ben Gomori, picking up where his much-loved Sterns Edits series left off. Working with the many beautiful layers and live takes of Yarni's self-released original (with contributions from fellow Steel City musicians Rachel Shirley, Ben Marks and Jonoa), Gomori turns the funk-fuelled track into a weighty afro house chugger.

Today I’m speaking to Kathy Sledge who found international fame in the 70’s and 80’s with Sister Sledge.

Kathy has had a truly incredible career which spans six decades now from childhood stardom to solo success she has travelled the world whilst creating some of dance music’s best recognised tracks. With super hits including We Are Family, Lost in Music, He’s The Greatest Dancer and Thinking Of You she had brought joy to millions all over the globe. With a brand new audience continuing to discover those tracks Kathy continues to keep busy branching out into TV production and creating music shows.

With a brand new track Kathy Sledge & Operation Funk Could It Be You? Arriving this week on Point Blank Records Kathy continues to inspire. I caught up with her to discuss the release and her incredible career talking about Sister Sledge, working with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, recording with Horsemeat Disco, Roger Sanchez and some of the new projects that she is working on.

@eddiec is one of the kings of the Slo-Mo disco scene. Based in Berlin but hailing from Canada he's a DJ who is in demand across the globe and known for his energy soaked DJ sets and eclectic dancefloor filling tastes.

His latest release finds him landing on the hallowed grounds of @soulclaprecs with a rather brilliant 7" featuring two tracks of divine Soul and Disco infused gems. A side I Wanna Know touches on early 90's Soul II Soul era Street Soul whist equally nodding it's head to the likes of Loose Ends and SOS Band. Huge synth brass licks and chunky drums ably support the classy vocal from Idriss.

Over on the flip and our premier today is Rendez-Vous which touches on classic Aeroplane and Chromeo era Nu Disco boogie. The delicious bassline does some serious dancefloor damage here yet still leaves lots of space for the effervescent laser synths and hooky 80's edged vocal.

@casbah-73 has been on the LV radar for a couple of years now, hitting regularly with some top class releases via the likes of Glitterbox and Lovemonk. He's a selector with years of experience and that shines through with his productions.

Creating reverential but underground and seriously exciting disco he has made a strong mark in a short space of time keeping to quality rather than quantity on the release front.

His latest release see's him land on the always excellent @boogieangst, a label which has exactly the same Bi-line so this is very much a match made in heaven.

Let's invade the amazon lands this week and sits right at the axis where disco meets soulful house with it's infectious vocal bubbling bassline, tight keys and funky as hell guitar licks.
