Bottoms up into autumn with LiT MIX 020 from Calgary’s Dooshima D Big Kitty! This set is a high-energy heater at 130 bpm, libra-liciously dancing across the Black Atlantic musical diaspora of afrobeats, uk funky, bassline and garage house. She’s serving us the savvy selections of a Polaris Music Prize grand juror, mixed with the soul and skill of a Director at SheDJsYYC, where she offers DJ mentorship and workshops for women in Western Canada. 

You can hear the instrumental of D Big Kitty’s recent debut single with Teafannie, Ladies of the Dance, mixed in here with Mina & Bryte’s “One Leg”, and it’s great to hear new made-in-Canada afrobeats hold their own with contemporary African anthems by producers like Gafacci, Moris Beat, Citizen Boy, Pl4net Dust and Boddhi Satva. 
 
This set is straight up banger after banger and doesn’t let up with spontaneity and stamina. D Big Kitty is on her own next level throwing in heady UK body music by producers like Throwing Snow and Scratchclart, big room Canadian house like Neon Steve and Egyptrixx, and the list of vocalists featured throughout is epic including Magugu, Badi, Lady Lykez, Sweetie Irie, TT The Artist, Davido, Movado, Fox, Mr. Eazi, Bunji Garlin and Stylo G… even Ultra Naté! Yes, this is the set we’ve always dreamed of that includes both classic Strictly Rhythm soulful house and Beyonce’s Lion King soundtrack. Sheep don’t run with lions, and we can’t not dance to D Big Kitty!

She’s affiliated with an inspiring alignment of Calgary collectives championing women, LGBTQ and BIPOC culture including Tigerstyle DJs, Big Kitty Crew, Afros In The City, Umoja Sessions, and Pink Flamingo YYC. She wears protective swag from her own lifestyle brand SheSoShaded while speaking out and organizing in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. We stan for all of this.
