So subtle and really danceable at the same time

"Spacewreck" is an experimentation with Messiaen's Mode 3. Belonging to the modes of limited transposition, Mode 3 is an (artificial) musical scale that fulfills some specific criteria of symmetry. Specifically, Mode 3 uses the following intervals:  tone, semitone, semitone, tone, semitone, semitone, tone, semitone, semitone (T-S-S, T-S-S, T-S-S). As a consequence, it contains 9 notes: C, D, D#, E, F#, G, G#, A#, B. The scale only has 3 modes and 4 possible possible transpositions (i.e., C, C#, D, D#). 

The beauty of Mode 3 is that can be used to abandon full tonality, and freely explore an atonal yet suggestive sonic landscape. "Spacewreck" highlights the possibility of using major, minor, diminished and augmented triads of the same chord without any issues, and even to temporarily abandon the tonal center with the listener barely noticing the fact. The deconstruction of western tonality is here the starting point for a powerful space trip, where we find ourselves floating around the wreckage of the last human spacecraft.
